Job Description

As a Senior Automation Engineer - Web at Yahoo Mail, you will be a critical contributor to the quality and efficiency of the Yahoo Mail Web application for Desktop and Mobile Web. You will lead the design, development, and implementation of a robust, scalable automation testing pipeline, architecting and evolving automated test frameworks for CI/CD. This role involves developing and enhancing sophisticated automated test suites, collaborating with various teams, and triaging complex defects. You will also mentor engineers, report on quality metrics, and research new automation technologies to advance testing capabilities.
Must have:
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of a robust, scalable automation testing pipeline.
  • Architect and evolve automated test frameworks and tools for CI/CD.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance sophisticated automated test suites.
  • Collaborate deeply with Web development, product, and manual QA teams.
  • Identify, analyze, and triage complex defects.
  • Mentor and guide other engineers on best practices in test automation and code quality.
  • Establish and report on key quality metrics derived from automation results.
  • Research, evaluate, and advocate for new automation technologies and methodologies.
  • Act as a subject matter expert for Web test automation.
  • BS in Computer Science (or equivalent) with 8+ years of experience in software development or quality assurance.
  • Proven expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining complex automated test frameworks.
  • Strong programming skills in Javascript and frameworks such as React and Node.js.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with Playwright, Cypress, or WebdriverIO.
  • Experience with unit testing frameworks such as Jest and React Testing Library.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with cloud-based platforms for web application testing (Sauce Labs, BrowserStack, LambdaTest).
  • Deep technical knowledge of how web applications work, JSON, API integration, and service workers.
  • Solid understanding and practical experience with CI/CD pipelines.
  • Proficiency in web application debugging using developer tools and HAR files.
  • Strong foundation in Computer Science principles.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Experience working effectively in Agile/Scrum development methodologies.
Good to have:
  • Experience with writing tests using AI and/or ML frameworks.
  • Experience with performance, network, load, and security testing for web applications.
  • Understanding of backend systems and APIs that support web applications.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker) and cloud platforms.
  • Experience with accessibility testing using tools such as JAWS.
  • Experience with visual testing tools such as Chromatic.
  • Familiarity with web technologies such as Webpack, Superagent, Babel, Web Vitals, Redux Toolkit, Atomic CSS, and Storybook.
  • Experience contributing to open-source test automation projects or active participation in relevant technical communities.

Responsibilities:

As an Automation Engineer, you'll be a critical contributor to the quality and efficiency of the Yahoo Mail Web application for Desktop and Mobile Web. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the design, development, and implementation of a robust, scalable automation testing pipeline for the Yahoo Mail Web application, driving comprehensive test coverage and efficient execution within our CI/CD systems.
  • Architecting and evolving automated test frameworks and tools that enable continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) for software releases.
  • Developing, maintaining, and enhancing sophisticated automated test suites for functional, regression, performance, and integration testing across diverse Web browsers, devices, OS versions, and network conditions.
  • Collaborating deeply with Web development, product, and manual QA teams to embed automation into every stage of the development lifecycle, ensuring testability and quality are considered from inception.
  • Identifying, analyzing, and triaging complex defects uncovered by automation, working closely with engineering teams to ensure timely resolution and root cause analysis.
  • Mentoring and guiding other engineers on best practices in test automation, code quality, and building highly testable features.
  • Establishing and reporting on key quality metrics derived from automation results, providing actionable insights to leadership and cross-functional teams.
  • Researching, evaluating, and advocating for new automation technologies and methodologies to continuously advance our testing capabilities and efficiency.
  • Acting as a subject matter expert for Web test automation, influencing architectural and design decisions to promote inherent testability and reliability of the application.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Computer Science (or equivalent) with 8+ years of experience in software development or quality assurance, with a strong focus on web test automation.
  • Proven expertise in designing, developing, and maintaining complex automated test frameworks and pipelines for web applications at scale.
  • Strong programming skills in Javascript and frameworks such as React and Node.js

The compensation for this position ranges from $136,125.00 - $283,750.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
