Job Description

Climax is a leading independent game development studio in Portsmouth. They are seeking an onsite Senior Character Artist to join their team. The role requires providing examples of beautifully constructed characters, clean geometry, texture, and material work. Candidates should have several years of industry experience as a Character Artist, with at least one published game. The artist will conceptualise, model, and texture characters to tell stories through their craft.

Must have:

Showcase creative flare and core fundamentals like solid topology, UVs, and texturing.
Display a folio with a wide range of examples demonstrating flexibility and a good eye for form, shape, composition.
Utilise wealth of experience in conceptualising, modelling, and texturing to tell stories through beautifully crafted characters.

Good to have:

Good working knowledge of Unreal 4/5
Experience using Marvelous Designer
Experience with scan development pipelines

Climax is one of the leading creative lights of independent games development with an outstanding line of top published titles. It truly is an exciting and inspiring place to work in the heart of Gunwharf Quays, in Portsmouth overlooking the harbour.

We are seeking an onsite Senior Character Artist. You will be able to provide us with examples of beautifully constructed characters, clean geometry, texture and material work. You will have a number of years’ experience as a Character artist in the industry with at least one published game to your name. As part of our Character Art team, you will be asked to utilise your wealth of experience in conceptualising, modelling, and texturing to tell stories through beautifully crafted characters.

Requirements

Be able to showcase some creative flare as well as displaying core fundamentals such as solid topology, UV's and texturing
A deep understanding and knowledge in Maya and Zbrush plus a proven foundation in Photoshop
You should be able to display a folio with a wide range of examples demonstrating flexibility and a good eye for form, shape, composition and fun - we love nothing more than to see someone who loves their craft and enjoys what they do
A good working knowledge of Unreal 4/5 as well as experience using Marvelous Designer and/or scan development pipelines is beneficial.
Experience with facial blendshapes and wrinkle maps
Hair authoring experience - full strand based and hair cards
Good knowledge of anatomy
Examples of hard surface work
