Job Description

As a Senior Data Scientist at QS, you will be instrumental in developing and deploying AI technologies to automate processes, improve decision-making, and scale operations. Your responsibilities will include focusing on generative AI, deploying cloud solutions, and mentoring junior team members. You will lead the development of predictive and prescriptive models, manage data science projects from conception to deployment, and utilize advanced statistical methods and machine learning algorithms for data analysis. Key tasks involve data exploration, feature engineering, stakeholder collaboration, maintaining machine learning models, implementing monitoring frameworks, and communicating complex analytical results to non-technical audiences. You will also act as a subject matter expert, providing strategic insights to leadership.
Must have:
  • Lead predictive and prescriptive model development
  • Manage data science projects end-to-end
  • Utilize advanced statistical methods and ML algorithms
  • Conduct data exploration and feature engineering
  • Collaborate with stakeholders on project scope
  • Maintain and enhance existing ML models
  • Implement model monitoring and evaluation
  • Communicate analytical results to non-technical stakeholders
  • Identify opportunities for data-driven solutions
  • Act as a data science subject matter expert

  • Master's degree or PhD in a STEM field
  • Proficiency with Python, R, SQL

Role: Senior Data Scientist

Location: Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Job type: Full time, Permanent – Hybrid

This position offers a hybrid work model, allowing flexibility between working from home and our office.


Typically, employees are expected to work 2-3 days in the office per week.

As a Senior Data Scientist, this is what you’ll be doing:

As a Senior Data Scientist you will play a critical role in developing and deploying AI technologies that automate key processes, enhance decision-making, and scale operations.


With a particular focus on using generative AI across the business, deploying cloud solutions for wider tool availability, and mentoring junior team members, you will contribute to both technical advancements and team growth throughout QS.


Role responsibilities

  • Lead the development of predictive and prescriptive models to support key business initiatives and aid internal decision-making by business stakeholders.
  • Lead data science projects under the direction of more senior colleagues from conception to deployment, ensuring they align with business goals and deliver value.
  • Use advanced statistical methods and machine learning algorithms in the analysis of key datasets to extract actionable insights and unlock business value.
  • Conduct thorough data exploration and feature engineering to set high baseline F1 scores, improve model accuracy and significantly extend model performance.
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables.
  • Maintain and enhance existing machine learning models, ensuring they continue to meet business needs.
  • Develop and implement model monitoring and evaluation frameworks to assess performance over time.
  • Communicate complex analytical results and insights to non-technical stakeholders in a clear and actionable manner.
  • Work closely with business units to understand their challenges and identify opportunities for data-driven solutions.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in data science, providing recommendations and strategic insights to the leadership team.
  • Any other duties that fall within the scope and purpose of the role.

 

Key skills and experience

  • Master's degree or PHD in a STEM field desirable
  • Extensive experience in data science, with a proven track record of delivering AI-driven solutions to meet business objectives.
  • Currently in a senior role, demonstrating strong leadership, strategic thinking, and technical expertise.
  • Proficiency with core data science tools and technologies, including Python, R, SQL, and advanced machine learning frameworks like TensorFlow, PyTorch, or Scikit-learn.
  • Expertise in generative AI techniques, natural language processing (NLP), and data visualization tools such as Tableau or Power BI.
  • Deep understanding of cloud technologies and platforms, including AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud, with experience in deploying and managing scalable AI applications.
  • Proven ability to mentor and develop junior team members while fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
  • Exceptional communication skills to explain complex technical concepts and work effectively with cross-functional teams.
