Scopely seeks a Senior Director of Engineering for its Yahtzee! With Buddies team in Barcelona (hybrid). As a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, you'll align engineering goals with business needs, manage resources, foster a growth culture, collaborate across teams, and make critical decisions impacting quality and deadlines. Responsibilities include defining a technological roadmap, optimizing resource allocation, leading and mentoring engineering teams, ensuring cross-functional synergy, and reporting project progress to stakeholders. You'll work on a successful gaming franchise, driving innovation and maintaining high quality standards. The role requires extensive experience in Unity Engine development (client-side) or managing large distributed systems using .NET within an AWS ecosystem (server-side).

Scopely is looking for a Sr Director of Engineering to join our Yahtzee! With Buddies team in Barcelona on a hybrid basis.

Yahtzee with buddies is one of our casual free-to-play mobile games and is a classic board game with a new look. The team is based in Europe and the US, and works every day to create captivating new experiences for our players.
 
As the Director of Engineering, you will be the key point of contact and leader of a highly skilled and multidisciplinary engineering team. Joining a successful gaming franchise that has captivated a loyal audience for over a decade, you will have the unique opportunity to shape its future by driving innovation and maintaining the highest standards of quality.
 
What You Will Do 
  • As a member of the franchise’s Senior Leadership Team (SLT), you will work closely with the General Manager and other SLT members to achieve excellence in both the product and team performance. Your primary responsibilities will include:
  • Strategic Alignment: Align engineering goals with business needs by defining and delivering a meaningful, achievable technological roadmap based on KPIs and impact metrics.
  • Resource Optimization: Allocate and manage engineering resources effectively to maximize efficiency and meet franchise objectives. Propose and lead necessary organizational changes to adapt to evolving requirements.
  • Team Leadership: Foster a culture of growth and ambition among a senior engineering team. Support and enable managers to drive optimal performance from their teams and ensure the professional growth of individual contributors.
  • Cross-Discipline Collaboration: Promote synergy between Engineering and other teams to cultivate a collaborative and goal-oriented mindset throughout the organization.
  • Critical Decision-Making: Make daily strategic decisions impacting quality and deadlines while balancing short-term needs with long-term franchise success.
  • External Collaboration: Serve as the main point of contact for external partners and teams, ensuring clear communication of needs and priorities to maximize ecosystem-wide collaboration.
  • Continuous Improvement: Analyze technical and business KPIs to identify opportunities for improvement, ensuring alignment between technical execution and business outcomes.
  • Stakeholder Reporting: Regularly report project progress and results directly to company stakeholders, ensuring transparency, accountability, and alignment with strategic goals.

What We’re Looking For

  • Proven track record of leading engineering teams in a high-seniority, multidisciplinary environment.
  • Experience working in or leading the technical direction of a gaming franchise or similar projects/products with a large, loyal audience.
  • Extensive experience in Unity Engine development on the client side or managing large distributed systems using .NET within an AWS ecosystem on the server side.
  • Strong problem-solving and organizational skills with the ability to navigate complex challenges and deliver innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams and articulate technical and strategic concepts to stakeholders at all levels.
