Job Description
What You'll Do
- Architect Flight-Ready Electrical Systems: Design and document schematics, harnesses, and interface control documents (ICDs) for critical avionics and low-voltage systems.
- Own Subsystem Design: Take full ownership of individual electrical subsystems, such as air data, actuation, displays, lighting, or HMI, from early design through test and integration.
- Collaborate Across Disciplines: Work with mechanical, propulsion, structural, and software teams to ensure clean electrical interfaces and compatible integration strategies.
- Specify and Source Components: Select MIL-spec connectors, wire types, sensors, embedded computers, and other components aligned with performance and environmental requirements.
- Design for Integration: Incorporate grounding, shielding, EMI/EMC best practices, and signal integrity considerations into every design decision.
- Support Builds and Troubleshooting: Work closely with integration engineers and technicians to resolve issues during harness fabrication, subsystem bring-up, and vehicle-level testing.
- Coordinate with Vendors: Define specifications for custom harnesses and electrical subassemblies, review builds, and manage inspection criteria with external partners.
- Drive Design Quality: Review and improve internal standards for harness documentation, configuration management, and design-for-manufacture practices.
What You'll Bring
- Demonstrated professional experience in electrical and avionics system design (ideally within the aerospace, maritime, defense, or automotive industries), with a strong technical foundation in electrical engineering, aerospace engineering, or related fields
- A deep passion for building reliable, safety-critical electrical systems that operate in demanding real-world environments
- Proven expertise in schematic capture, wiring diagrams, and harness architecture for complex vehicles or platforms
- Familiarity with a wide range of communication protocols (CAN, RS-422/485, ARINC 429, Ethernet) and their practical implementation
- Strong understanding of EMI/EMC design principles and cable/harness construction best practices
- Skilled with hands-on work, including harness inspection, soldering, connectorization, and functional bench testing
- Experience working with internal technicians and external vendors for harness builds and component integration
- Proficiency with lab test tools including oscilloscopes, multimeters, and DAQs
- Ability to read and generate ICDs, wiring diagrams, and system documentation with attention to configuration and traceability
Bonus Experience
- Prior experience with fly-by-wire or electric aircraft systems
- Familiarity with ECAD tools like Siemens Capital or NX/Capital integrations
- Experience integrating high-voltage or high-power propulsion systems
- Exposure to embedded computing platforms, COTS sensor interfaces, and avionics LRUs
- Coding/scripting familiarity (Python, MATLAB, Simulink) for data analysis or test automation
- Experience supporting EMI/EMC or signal integrity testing
- Background in avionics technician work, harness fabrication, or aircraft wiring installations
Who We're Looking For
- Collaborative Team Player: You believe that great things happen when teams work together. You communicate effectively and collaborate with engineers, stakeholders, and other cross-functional teams to align on goals and move projects forward. You bring people together, ensuring that everyone is on the same page and moving towards a shared vision.
- Creative Problem Solver: You thrive on tackling complex challenges and finding innovative solutions. Whether you're resolving installation challenges, debugging elusive electrical issues, or adapting on the fly during integration and test, you bring a practical, inventive mindset to every problem. You don't just patch issues - you improve processes, anticipate downstream impacts, and help turn one-off fixes into scalable solutions that raise the bar for future builds.
