Shield AI’s mission is to protect the lives of service members and civilians with intelligent systems. The Mission Systems Engineering team contributes to this effort by specifying, designing, integrating, and flight testing both in-house and off-the-shelf hardware on both V-BAT and our next-generation aircraft. As Senior Manager, you will lead multiple engineers and leaders, perform individual contributor work (approx. 50%), and provide career guidance. You will work cross-functionally with electrical, mechanical, software, and program management engineers, directly impacting Shield AI's success and the Aircraft Engineering organization's future.
Must have:
  • Perform regular 1:1s, provide career guidance, and document performance
  • Own requirements gathering, design, integration, and validation of multiple electrical systems
  • Become fluent with aircraft schematics, wiring diagrams, interfaces, communications, and mechanical design
  • Contribute to the entire employee lifecycle (candidate identification, interviewing, career growth)
  • Develop documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Support aircraft flight operations and data review, evaluating aircraft health and performance
  • Debug, root cause, and repair electrical hardware issues
  • Deliver novel autonomous features through cross-functional collaboration
  • Use Python or Matlab to scrape data during testing and validation
  • Drive improvements to prevent reoccurrence and increase reliability
  • Contribute to and attend cross-functional design reviews
  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field
  • Multiple years experience leading a cross-disciplinary engineering team
  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance
  • Mastery of fundamental engineering concepts (EE, Mech E, Programming, Physics, Mathematics)
  • 7+ years engineering experience with electrical system design, integration, testing, debug, and repair
  • Comfortable using circuit schematics and wiring diagrams
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary hardware development projects
  • Demonstrated history of showing ownership of project outcomes and delivering exceptional results
Good to have:
  • Experience with Python or any scripting language
  • Experience with CAD tools such as SolidWorks, NX, CATIA
  • Experience testing automotive or aerospace systems in the field

The Mission Systems Engineering team contributes to this effort by specifying, designing, integrating, and flight testing both in-house and off-the-shelf hardware on both V-BAT and our next-generation aircraft. This team works cross-functionally, both in the office and at our flight testing facilities, to specify, integrate, and flight test avionics packages that enhance the mission capabilities of our aircraft.

As Senior Manager of the Mission Systems Engineering team, you will be responsible for the success of multiple engineers and leaders that report to you, in addition to your own engineering and design tasks. You will work with electrical, mechanical, software, and program management engineers on both the V-BAT and next-generation aircraft programs. You will perform some individual contributor work in addition to holding 1:1 meetings, writing reviews, and providing career guidance to your team. While leadership is an important part of this role, you are still expected to spend approximately 50% of your time as an individual contributor in your respective field. Your contributions will directly impact the success of Shield AI in addition to influencing the future of the Aircraft Engineering organization. What you'll do:

  • Support aircraft flight operations and data review the responsible authority for evaluating aircraft health, performance, real-time debug and resolution.
  • Debug, root cause, and repair electrical hardware issues.
  • Deliver novel autonomous features through collaboration with Mechanical, Electrical, Embedded, Manufacturing, Product Management, Flight Test, etc.
  • Use Python or Matlab to scrape data during testing and validation activities.
  • Drive improvements to prevent reoccurrence and increase reliability.
  • Contribute to and attend cross-functional design reviews. Advocate for design changes that result in simpler design and production processes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications:

  • B.S. in Electrical Engineering or related STEM field.
  • Multiple years experience leading a cross-disciplinary engineering team.
  • Active Top Secret Security Clearance.
  • Mastery of fundamental engineering concepts, including EE, Mech E, Programming, Physics, and Mathematics.
  • 7+ years engineering experience with electrical system design, integration, testing, debug, and repair.
  • Comfortable using circuit schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Mastery of fundamental engineering concepts, including EE, Mech E, Programming, Physics, and Mathematics.
  • Experience working on multidisciplinary hardware development projects, which can be from an internship, job, club, team, personal project, etc…
  • Demonstrated history of showing ownership of project outcomes and delivering exceptional results.
  • Record of working hard, being a trustworthy teammate, holding yourself and others to high standards, and being kind to others.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Experience with Python or any scripting language.
