Job Description

As a Senior Game Designer, you will be responsible for designing, adjusting, and optimizing the player experience for an early-stage product. Your analytical skills, player insight, and creativity will help craft in- and out-of-game experiences that engage and surprise players. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, utilizing various tools to create and iterate on player-focused designs to delight millions around the world. Responsibilities include designing, implementing, and improving combat mechanics and systems to meet player needs, seeking innovative combat design solutions, creating design guidelines, validating solutions through rapid prototyping, and collaborating with the design team to create a great holistic experience.
Must have:
  • 6+ years of professional Game Design experience
  • Experience in Combat Mechanics, Combat Feel, Combat AI, or Character, Camera & Controls
  • 3+ years of experience in Unreal Engine
  • Ability to create complex mechanics and systems
  • Deep understanding and passion for PvE Action/ARPG games
  • Fluent in Mandarin Chinese
Good to have:
  • Experience working in a lead Combat Design role
  • Experience working on a live product
  • Experience with early-stage games and prototyping
  • Proficient in scripting in a shipped title
  • Familiar with the League of Legends universe and IP

资质要求

  • 6年以上专业游戏设计经验。
  • 至少在以下一个领域中具备丰富经验:战斗机制、战斗反馈、战斗AI或战斗3C
  • 3年以上使用Unreal引擎的经验,熟练掌握技能编辑器、关卡编辑器、GAS系统和蓝图
  • 能够创建复杂的机制和系统,关注系统对玩家的影响及其后续效果
  • 对PvE动作/ARPG游戏具有深厚的理解、热情和熟悉程度
  • 能流利使用中文(普通话)

理想资质

  • 有担任战斗设计负责人的经验
  • 具有在持续运营产品中工作的经验
  • 具有游戏早期阶段和原型设计的经验,在延迟满足下工作,保持耐心并追求卓越
  • 具有在至少一个已发布游戏项目中进行脚本编程的经验

As a Game Designer, you will design, tweak, and optimize the player experience. Your analytical skills, player insight, and creativity help craft in- and out-of-game experiences that engage and surprise players. You will collaborate with interdisciplinary teams and work with every tool at hand to create and iterate player-focused designs that will delight millions around the world.

As a Senior Game Designer in Research & Development working on an early stage product, you will help decipher one of Riot’s next big bets. You will partner with other designers, artists, and engineers to improve and iterate player-focused designs that aim at delivering a groundbreaking experience. We are still a small team, so this requires plenty of hands-on work creating, and tuning combat systems/mechanics. You are comfortable operating in an ambiguous environment where goals and constraints are mostly team driven and where change, big and small, is an essential part of the process. You will report to the Game Director of the project. 

As a Rioter in China, you'll join a team of internationally and culturally diverse professionals that share our prioritization of player experience, rejection of convention and maniacal passion for gaming. 

To reinforce Riot’s collaborative culture in our China offices, we’ve decided to do away with the constraints of traditional hierarchical title structures that are more common in the region. Titles don’t really matter at any of Riot’s offices, but we chose to take this extra step in our China offices to foster a space where teamwork thrives. We believe that removing this constraint will promote individual autonomy, ownership, collaboration, and a focus on results. We promise you won’t need a title at Riot to make an impact.

Responsibilities:

  • Design, implement, and improve combat mechanics and systems that satisfy players and increase confidence in the game concept.
  • Seek opportunities for innovative combat design solutions within the genre. Create and provide multiple potential designs and solutions. Articulate trade-offs and risks between different options.
  • Create high level principles and best practices for future combat design work.
  • Utilize rapid prototyping and playtesting where applicable to validate solutions.
  • Create clear design documentation that can be evaluated and implemented by non-designers.
  • Work collaboratively with the design team and other disciplines to create a great holistic experience. Collaborate, receive feedback, and iterate towards the highest quality product.

Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of experience in professional Game Design.
  • Strong and experienced in at least one of the following areas: Combat Mechanics, Combat Feel, Combat AI, or Character, Camera & Controls.
  • 3+ years of experience in Unreal. Proficient with Skill Editor, Level Editor, GAS, and Blueprint.
  • Can create complex mechanics and systems with attention to the player impacts and downstream effects.
  • Deep level of understanding, passion, and engagement with PvE Action/ARPG games.
  • Fluent in Mandarin Chinese.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a lead Combat Design role.
  • Experience working on a live product.
  • Experience with early-stage games and prototyping, work under delayed gratification, be patient, and pursue excellence.
  • Proficient in scripting in at least one game engine in a shipped title.
  • Familiar with the League of Legends universe and IP.
  • Fluent in spoken and written English.
