Senior Litigation Counsel

We’re looking for an experienced Senior Litigation Counsel. Reporting to the Vice President & Deputy General Counsel for Litigation and Regulatory Compliance, you’ll use your experience handling a variety of litigation matters and taking a hands-on approach to advance Discord’s interests when things get adversarial. From pre-litigation contract disputes to complex and business-critical litigation matters, you’ll develop processes for handling routine issues, and represent the company in novel theories and cutting-edge questions. You’ll play a critical role on Discord’s Legal team and collaborate with colleagues throughout the company as you successfully advocate for Discord.  

What you'll be doing

• Advance Discord’s interests in disputes of all shapes and sizes
• Defend Discord in litigation matters, pre-litigation and regulatory investigations matters 
• Supervise and collaborate with outside counsel on complex matters
• Continue to build and implement systems for efficient e-discovery
• Monitor new and changing laws and anticipate evolving litigation liability and risk
• Learn how disputes arise and identify ways to pre-empt them

What you should have

• JD from an accredited law school and admission to bar of a relevant jurisdiction
• 10+ years combined experience at a well-respected law firm and in-house legal department (tech preferred)
• Hands-on litigation experience in Internet law, including for example: platform safety, minor safety, privacy, consumer protection, CDA 230, DMCA, and related subject matters
• Strategic mindset that balances proactive action and pragmatic risk management within resource constraints
• Excellent writer and communicator who can tailor the message to the audience
• Willingness to take on any project, from large to small
• Experience with scaling processes and procedures for a fast-growing company
• Demonstrated experience managing projects, prioritizing, and consistently achieving results
• Curiosity and ability to jump into less familiar areas and learn while doing
• High emotional intelligence with an attitude of open-mindedness, collaboration, flexibility, growth-mindset, kindness, and being humble

Bonus points

• In-house experience at a consumer-facing technology platform
• Experience with regulatory investigations
• Experience with litigations in regions around the world, including Brazil, Israel, Europe and the UK
• Experience with eDiscovery including complex eDiscovery projects for messaging applications involving voice, video and text
• Subject matter experience in intellectual property disputes, including copyright, trademark and patent litigation
• Subject matter experience in commercial litigation and dispute resolution

The US base salary range for this full-time position is $304,000 to $342,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits.
