As a Senior Mission Designer at Avalanche, you will be responsible for designing and scripting engaging and complex gameplay scenarios and missions. You will collaborate with a cross-discipline team to create world-class entertainment experiences. Key responsibilities include designing and implementing missions using systemic gameplay elements, enemies, and scripting; working closely with Narrative Designers to ensure mission flow and storytelling create an immersive player experience; blocking out mission locations and coordinating with World Designers; ensuring mission designs align with the overall game vision and mechanics; and communicating with team members across various disciplines to maximize synergies and leverage available systems and assets.
Must have:
- Senior-level experience as mission/level designer on a AAA action title
- Scripting experience (Python, LUA or equivalent)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Team player focused on collaboration and synergy
- Passion for playing open-world action games
Good to have:
- Experience/interest in other game design fields (e.g., combat design)
- Interest in mission design meeting level design and storytelling

Job Details
As a Senior Mission Designer at Avalanche, you’ll be responsible for designing and scripting engaging and complex gameplay scenarios and missions. You’ll work as part of a cross-discipline team where each team member brings their expertise to the table in order to create a world class entertainment experience.
What you'll do:
- Designing and implementing engaging missions through the use of systemic gameplay elements, enemies and scripting
- Working closely with Narrative Designers to make sure mission flow and storytelling blend well to create an immersive, engaging and fun player experience
- Blocking out the various locations your missions take place in and working with World Designers to ensure they fit well within the physical context of the game world
- Working closely with your lead and other colleagues to ensure your mission designs are in line with the overall direction and game vision and make the most of the game’s mechanics
- Communicating broadly with team members in various disciplines to maximize synergies and ensure you are fully utilizing the various systems available to you and leveraging assets and support to achieve your vision
Who you are:
- Senior-level experience as a mission or level designer on at least one AAA action title
- Scripting experience (Python, LUA or equal)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- A team player who thrives on collaboration and understands how the team wins when everyone works in synergy
- Experience and/or interest in other game design fields (combat design etc)
- Interest in the creative space where mission design meets level design and storytelling
- Passion for playing open world action games
