Grammarly is seeking a Senior Mixed Methods Researcher to join their Growth team. This role focuses on driving research to deliver insights that fuel growth across the user journey, including acquisition, activation, retention, and monetization. The researcher will collaborate with cross-functional teams like Product, Design, Data Science, and Marketing to identify business questions, apply rigorous methodologies, and synthesize insights to inform strategic decisions. Responsibilities include designing and executing end-to-end primary research using various methods, working quickly and communicating effectively, generating insights for ideation and evaluation, and acting as a thought leader in the research domain while advocating for customers. The position requires a dynamic hybrid working model.
Must have:
  • 6+ years relevant experience or Master's with 2+ years or PhD with 1+ years
  • Experience with programming for data analysis (R, SQL, STATA, SPSS)
  • Experience with experimental survey design
  • Experience applying advanced statistical analysis
  • Experience designing, moderating, and analyzing qualitative research
  • Experience translating research findings into strategic narratives
  • Experience with growth strategies (acquisition, retention, monetization)
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively

The Opportunity

To achieve our ambitious goals, we’re looking for a mixed methods researcher to join our UX and Marketing Research team. This role will focus on driving research within Grammarly’s Growth team, delivering insights that drive growth across the user journey, such as acquisition, activation, retention, and monetization efforts. 

You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams—Product, Design, Data Science, and Marketing—to identify critical business questions, apply rigorous methodological approaches, and synthesize insights that inform strategic decisions. Using various techniques, you’ll uncover actionable insights about current and potential Grammarly users. You will also foster a culture of human-centered, data-driven decision-making, helping to guide our evolution as a leader in AI-assisted communication.

In this role, you will:

  • Work cross-functionally with data science, product management, marketing, design, and engineering to identify research topics.
  • Use an understanding of marketing funnels and growth tactics to scope and conduct research studies contributing to business impact.
  • Understand Grammarly’s strategic business goals and user needs to actively contribute toward building a cohesive roadmap with your team.
  • Monitor key growth metrics, such as conversion rates, revenue growth, and experimentation results to assess performance.
  • Use research to lead vision and strategy discussions by analyzing, consolidating, or synthesizing what is known about user, product, service, or business needs.
  • Act as a thought leader in the research domain, while advocating for the current or potential customers.
  • Design and execute end-to-end custom primary research using a wide variety of methods.
  • Work quickly and communicate effectively with a fast-paced team focused on speed, rigor, and quality.
  • Generate insights that both fuel ideation and evaluate potential solutions.
  • Ability to work independently and autonomously.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree with 6+ years of relevant experience in user experience, applied research,  and product research and development, Master’s degree with 2+ years relevant experience, or a PhD with 1+ years of relevant experience.
  • Experience in programming languages for data manipulation and computational statistics (e.g., R, SQL, STATA, SPSS, or equivalent).
  • Experience with experimental survey design, surveys, and response effects.
  • Experience applying advanced statistical analysis methods. 
  • Experience designing, moderating, and analyzing qualitative research. 
  • Experience translating research findings into strategic narratives.
  • Experience with growth strategies, including user acquisition, retention, and monetization.
  • Experience understanding growth experimentation results.
  • Experience mentoring and fostering a culture of growth and development within a research team.
  • Has excellent communication skills, effectively articulating the rationale behind research direction and confidently presenting to diverse groups of stakeholders.
  • Has a demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal guidance, proactively manages tasks and priorities across multiple projects, analyzes and executes work efficiently, collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams, and thrives in fast-paced, results-driven environments.

Grammarly takes a market-based approach to compensation, which means base pay may vary depending on your location. Our US locations are categorized into two compensation zones based on proximity to our hub locations.

Base pay may vary considerably depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The expected salary ranges for this position are outlined below by compensation zone and may be modified in the future.

Zone 1: $200,000 – $275,000/year (USD)
