Job Description

The Houdini Pipeline Developer will collaborate with Pipeline Leads to build a Houdini pipeline using USD and Solaris. They will create intuitive workflows for users of varying skill levels, ensuring efficient operation on complex scenes. Key responsibilities include solving complex problems, writing high-quality Python code, communicating with artists, and contributing to technical documentation. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of experience in Houdini pipeline code and possess strong communication skills. They should also demonstrate a talent for designing artist-friendly workflows and have a strong understanding of object-oriented programming. A background as an FX artist is preferred.
Must have:
  • Write Houdini pipeline code using python
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Design intuitive, artist-friendly workflows
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming
Good to have:
  • Experience with OpenUSD / Solaris a plus
  • Experience with PDG / TOPs preferred
  • Background as an FX artist using Houdini in production preferred

Job Details

The Houdini Pipeline Developer collaborates with Pipeline Leads to build a Houdini pipeline that spans lookdev, lighting, CFX, and FX, using USD and Solaris as a backbone. They leverage their production experience to create intuitive and self-documenting workflows that can be quickly adopted by users of differing skill levels, and which can operate efficiently on scenes of extreme scale and complexity.


Key Responsibilities
  • Solve complex problems in the domain of Houdini pipeline workflows
  • Write high quality Python code that is easy to maintain and is well-tested 
  • Communicate with artists to identify areas of inefficiency and help gather their requirements
  • Contribute to technical briefs and user documentation


Qualifications
  • Passion for staying on top of latest features in Houdini
  • 8+ years experience writing Houdini pipeline code using python
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated talent for designing intuitive, artist-friendly workflows without sacrificing functionality
  • Understanding of object-oriented programming patterns
  • Comfortable with git and unit testing
  • Desire to probe and understand the inner workings of complex systems
  • Background as an FX artist using Houdini in production preferred
  • Hands-on experience with OpenUSD / Solaris a plus
  • Experience with PDG / TOPs preferred
