The Meshing Development Unit (MDU) is seeking a Senior R&D Engineer to maintain and further develop core meshing and geometry processing algorithms and data structures. The focus for this role is automated surface and volume meshing. Of special interest is experience in quad and hex meshing as well as in weighted Voronoi diagrams. The software development environment consists of a unified framework allowing specialization for different target architectures such as CPU’s and GPU’s. This role requires a background in computational geometry, geometry processing and/or computer graphics. The background and experience in combination with the interest of the successful applicant will be considered for work assignments. This developer can expect to be engaged in all stages of the development cycle from capability planning to research and software implementation.
Must have:
  • Participate in planning, architecture, and research.
  • Develop high performance and memory efficient software for mesh generation and geometry processing.
  • Perform software development activities, including design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation.
  • Maintain and employ best practices through technical reviews and mentoring.
  • Research and solve problems discovered by quality assurance or product support teams.
  • Understand market requirements, target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • May take on planning and mentoring responsibilities.
  • Commercial experience with software design and development.
  • Background in developing high performance and memory efficient meshing and geometry algorithms.
  • Working knowledge of software development methodologies.
  • Knowledge with Python and C/C++.

The background and experience in combination with the interest of the successful applicant will be considered for work assignments. This developer can expect to be engaged in all stages of the development cycle from capability planning to research and software implementation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in planning, architecture, and research
  • Performs development of high performance and memory efficient software products for mesh generation and geometry processing.
  • Performs software development activities, including design, implementation, maintenance, testing and documentation.
  • Maintains and employs best practices through technical reviews and mentoring
  • Research and solve problems discovered by the quality assurance or product support teams and develop solutions.
  • Researches and understands market requirements, including target environment, performance criteria and competitive issues.
  • Works independently with minimal supervision and may take on some planning and mentoring responsibilities
  • May be responsible for managing interns or co-ops but typically does not have direct reports

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS in Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 5 years’ experience, MS with 3 years’ experience, or PhD with 1 year experience
  • Commercial experience with software design and development
  • Background in developing high performance and memory efficient meshing and geometry algorithms
  • Working knowledge of software development methodologies
  • Knowledge with Python and C/C++
