Job Description

As a Senior Security Engineer at Axon, you will play a crucial role in the care, maintenance, and advancement of high-availability, scalable, cloud-based systems with a strong focus on security. Responsibilities include responding to and investigating escalated security incidents, developing and implementing sophisticated monitoring and detection techniques, and partnering with other teams to design and build scalable security solutions. You will also engineer and implement automated solutions to address current security threats and detection methods. This role requires a proactive approach to address security events, mentor junior team members, and contribute to enhancing Axon's overall information security strategy. You will be part of a team that aims to protect life and works in a fast-paced, meaningful environment.

  • Understanding of modern, distributed cloud-based applications.
  • Fluency in development languages like Python or Golang.
  • Deep familiarity with Git and collaborative workflows.
  • Experience in responding to and investigating security events.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to analyze complex information.

Your Impact 

You are excited about the care, feeding, and growth of high-availability, scalable, cloud-based systems with a strong focus on security. You will respond to and investigate escalated security incidents. You will help to create and implement sophisticated monitoring and detection techniques. We need a high-energy security professional to help expand and mature our security operations. There are plenty of challenges to conquer that requires a range of security knowledge, experience, and passion.

What You’ll Do 

Location: Work from home as much as you want, live nearby any of our awesome US R&D Hubs (Seattle, Scottsdale, Atlanta, San Francisco, or Boston) so you can easily collab in-person when it’s helpful and be an active part of our vibrant Axon culture.
Reports to: Security Operations Center Manager
Direct Reports: 0 

  • Design, develop, implement, and maintain automated tooling to improve Axon’s ability to detect and respond to security events
  • Participate in an on-call rotation to investigate and remediate escalated security events, serving as a final point of escalation for complex issues beyond routine alerts.
  • Evaluate and integrate new security tools and technologies into the SOC
  • Set a high technical bar for the team
  • Mentor more junior team members
  • Partner with teams throughout the company to help design and build scalable solutions that improve Axon’s security posture.
  • Engineer and implement automated solutions to address current security attack methods and detection techniques.
  • Be the lead climber for complex tasks and projects
  • Follow best practices for software development, including version control, testing, continuous integration and deployment, and documentation.
  • Provide input to the overall Information Security Program for enhancing the information security strategy when necessary.
  • Stay current on security industry trends, attack techniques, mitigation techniques, and security technologies by attending conferences, networking with peers, and other educational opportunities.

 

What You Bring

  • 5-7 years of relevant experience. Bachelor’s degree or higher, or equivalent experience.
  • A fundamental understanding of how modern, distributed cloud-based applications function
  • Fluency in development languages like Python or Golang, and shell scripting (bash/powershell)
  • Deep familiarity with Git and collaborative workflows like GitHub or GitLab.
  • Demonstrated experience in security best practices, or an interest in building and expanding that knowledge
  • Experience responding to and investigating information security events and incidents 
  • Experience working with cloud-based APIs and infrastructure
  • Strong problem solving skills, including the ability to analyze complex information to discover root cause.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be able to pass a standard FBI background check for access to Criminal Justice Information Systems

The Pay: Axon is a total compensation company, meaning compensation is made up of base pay, bonus, and stock awards. The starting base pay for this role is between USD 105,225 in the lowest geographic market and USD 168,360 in the highest geographic market. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: level, function, training, transferable skills, work experience, business needs, geographic market, and often a combination of all these factors.
