Senior Software Engineer - Data Engineering - Search & Discovery

With Roblox’s daily active users growing at a record pace, we are seeking senior data engineers to join the Search & Discovery team in building the next generation of data and ML feature infrastructure that powers real-time content discovery and recommendation. Our team fuels some of the most used surfaces of the app, including Home, Search, Notifications, and more, through high-scale, high-throughput data systems that shape ML-driven personalization.

 

As a Senior Software Engineer on our team, you will architect and build foundational data pipelines, real-time streaming systems, and scalable feature computation frameworks. Your work will enable rapid experimentation, empower ranking models, and support personalized content delivery at massive scale. You will collaborate closely with engineers across ML, backend, and analytics to shape the future of search and discovery infrastructure at Roblox.

You Will:

• Build high-performance data pipelines and real-time streaming systems that support both online and offline ML features, training data and statistical computation at scale.
• Design and scale robust data infrastructure for powering retrieval, ranking of various recommendation systems across major Roblox surfaces.
• Ensure data systems are reliable, observable, privacy-compliant, and performant under heavy concurrency and high throughput.
• Partner with ML and backend engineers to define scalable interfaces and enable rapid iteration for model development and experimentation.
• Contribute to internal platforms and tools that abstract complexity, improve developer productivity, and accelerate innovation.

You Have:

• 6+ years of experience building and scaling backend systems with a focus on data pipelines, infrastructure, and big data technologies like Spark, Flink, Kafka, and Hive.
• Proficiency in one or more programming languages such as C#, Go, Java, or Python, and experience managing compute at scale with Kubernetes.
• Strong understanding of data modeling, privacy-aware data processing, and performance optimization in large-scale environments.
• Experience building feature platforms or ML data pipelines in production environments.
• A graduate degree or equivalent experience in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field is a plus.
