Job Description

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will focus on engineering complex user interfaces with rich interactions. You'll use your UI engineering and creative skills to iterate and deploy new features and products. You will collaborate with backend and product teams to drive UI architectures, development standards, and build optimized experiences. Responsibilities include providing UI engineering expertise, championing quality engineering practices, mentoring junior staff, collaborating on design system standards, designing high-performing web applications, resolving production issues, and working with project managers to ensure timely deliverables. The role requires expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, and modern UI frameworks, along with experience with REST patterns, Web APIs, and reactive programming.
Must have:

  • REST patterns, Web APIs, reactive programming
  • UI architecture and optimization
  • Agile/Lean development experience

Ad Platforms is responsible for Disney’s industry-leading ad technology and products – driving advertising performance, innovation, and value in Disney’s sports, news, and entertainment content, across all media platforms.

Job Summary:

As a Senior Software Engineer, you will focus on engineering complex user interfaces with rich interactions. You will use your deep UI engineering and creative skills to take an influential role in iterating and continuously deploying new features, functionality, and products to our customers.  You will be an important part of a lean DevOps and automation culture where we’ll be looking for you to collaborate with the backend and product teams to drive UI architectures, development standards, and to build optimized experiences for our end-users.

The candidate must be fluent in JavaScript and TypeScript, while also combining expertise with modern reactive JavaScript libraries, tools, and runtimes to engineer abstract, secure, reusable, and testable UI components and applications.  This person should also have home-grown Design System experience, having collaborated tightly with creative teams to champion and influence component reusability, maintainability, and configurability across a diverse UI portfolio.  The right person should also blend his/her engineering abilities with a sense of pixel-perfect craftsmanship, turning user stories, wireframes, and prototypes into fully functional UI, highly-optimized components and applications. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on UI engineering expertise and collaborate with leads and teams to design, architect, and optimize cloud-native, service-oriented applications and UI components.

  • Champion quality engineering practices like linting, unit testing, web UI testing, and pipeline automation to enable continuous deployment.

  • Mentor and lead junior staff through reference implementations, code reviews, and defining best practices for engineering.

  • Collaborate with product teams to establish and maintain design system standards, processes, and adoption.

  • Design high-performing web applications by applying creative problem-solving, logical reasoning, and optimization techniques.

  • Investigate and resolve production issues, ensuring seamless functionality from UI to service layer.

  • Work closely with project managers to ensure timely, high-quality project deliverables while fostering team alignment and effectiveness.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, with 5+ years of experience in web application development or software engineering using modern frameworks.

  • Expertise in JavaScript, TypeScript, and a UI stack (e.g., React, Next.js/Remix.run, TailwindCSS/SCSS), with proficiency in REST patterns, Web APIs, and reactive programming.

  • Experience designing performant RESTful services with SQL/NoSQL databases and leveraging tools like GitLab CI/CD, Docker, Kubernetes/Helm, and AWS.

  • Strong understanding of browser, device, OS compatibility, and user-agent interoperability.

  • Proven track record of writing testable UI code and delivering high-quality solutions in Agile and Lean environments.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills with attention to detail and a passion for technical craft.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in a related technical field.

  • Experience in digital advertising, working with vendor teams, and delivering high-quality results.

  • Strong curiosity about Disney’s innovative approach to delivering magical experiences.


The hiring range for this position in Seattle, Washington and New York, NY is $145,500 to $195,000 per year. Santa Monica, CA is $138,900 to $186,200 per year, San Francisco, CA is $152,100 to $203,900 per year. The base pay actually offered will take into account internal equity and also may vary depending on the candidate’s geographic region, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors. A bonus and/or long-term incentive units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to the full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the level and position offered.
