As a Senior Software Engineer, Game Systems, you will be working with a team of talented engineers to ensure a smooth and stable game experience for Zwift customers across multiple platforms, including iOS, Windows, Android, Mac, and Apple TV. You will be at the heart of the game platform and play an important role in building and optimizing game systems, application architecture, and player-facing experiences. You will design and implement game features in C++ across all Zwift platforms, ensuring optimal performance and maintainability. You will optimize game performance, debug and resolve complex issues across diverse devices, and contribute to code reviews. This role requires strong C++ skills, the ability to collaborate, and a focus on delivering high-quality, testable code and improving application performance.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience
  • Strong expertise in C++ development and native libraries
  • Familiarity with multi-threading and software design patterns
  • Experience delivering production-quality features
  • Familiar with Git and version control workflows
  • Experience with CI/CD and automated testing frameworks
  • Strong problem-solving and collaboration skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with game engines (Unity, Unreal, or custom-built)
  • Familiarity with real-time networking and multiplayer game systems
  • Experience in experimentation and feature flag systems
  • Experience with Java and modern Android development practices
  • Understanding of Android app architecture and JNI

About the role and about you:

As Senior Software Engineer, Game Systems, you'll work with a team of talented engineers to ensure that Zwift customers have a smooth, stable game experience across all of our supported platforms, including iOS, Windows, Android, Mac, and Apple TV. You will work at the heart of our game platform, and play an important role in building and optimizing our game systems, application architecture, and player-facing experiences.

This role is ideal for engineers with strong C++ skills who can effectively deliver results, deal with ambiguity, and collaborate closely with teammates and stakeholders. You will focus on writing high-quality, testable code, improving application performance, creating instrumentation and metrics, and ensuring compatibility across a wide range of platforms and devices. You will have the opportunity to shape the technical foundation of our game and help us innovate in the fitness gaming space.

What you’ll do: 

  • Design and implement game features and systems in C++ for all Zwift platforms (iOS, Windows, Android, Mac, Apple TV), ensuring optimal performance and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including game engineers, backend engineers, product managers, and UX designers to design, plan, test, and deliver high-quality features.
  • Optimize game performance through profiling, instrumentation, and improvements in CPU utilization, memory usage, and startup times.
  • Build tools and frameworks to improve development workflows and empower other other engineers.
  • Debug and resolve complex issues across a diverse set of devices and platforms, improving reliability and stability.
  • Contribute to code reviews, design discussions, and team planning processes.
  • Ensure code quality through automated testing (e.g., unit testing, integration testing, and similar).
  • Advocate for and implement engineering best practices like automated testing, CI/CD pipelines, and code modularity.

What we’re looking for: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or similar discipline.
  • 5+ years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Strong expertise in C++ development, including experience with native libraries and performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with multi-threading, memory management, and software design patterns.
  • Proven experience delivering production-quality features with appropriate levels of testing and instrumentation.
  • Familiar with Git and version control workflows.
  • Experience with Continuous Integration / Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) and automated testing frameworks.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and able to work and collaborate effectively in remote, distributed teams.

Bonus points: 

  • Experience with game engines (Unity, Unreal, or custom-built) and their integration with native platforms.
  • Familiarity with real-time networking and multiplayer game systems.
  • Experience in experimentation and feature flag systems (e.g. Optimizely, Firebase, or similar).
  • Experience with Java and modern Android development practices.
  • Solid understanding of Android app architecture, the JNI, and native-to-Java bridging.
  • Interest in building solutions that support our engaged Zwift Community of cyclists, runners, and fitness enthusiasts.

For All US Based Full-Time Positions:

The base salary for this position ranges between $128,000 to $204,000. The base salary will be based on a number of factors including the role offered, the individual's job-related knowledge, skills, qualifications, and geographic location. In addition to base salary, Zwift is proud to offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits package for all eligible employees which also includes performance bonuses, equity, and a full range of medical, financial, and other perks and benefits.
