Job Description

The Shipping and Receiving Lead is responsible for overseeing the incoming and outgoing shipments of materials, preparing paperwork, and monitoring the quality of materials before shipping. They also lead a team, focusing on safety, quality, and key performance indicators (KPIs). This role involves determining loading orders, verifying shipping documents, monitoring productivity, training staff, organizing the shipping crew, handling order tracing, and ensuring adherence to safety guidelines. The Shipping and Receiving Lead prepares reports, participates in startup meetings, and performs various other duties as required. This position requires the ability to lead others, understand DOT regulations, and basic lumber knowledge, while ensuring company policies are followed. The role operates under immediate supervision.
Must have:
  • 1 year of experience in shipping and receiving.
  • 1 year of experience leading others.
  • Working knowledge of DOT regulations.
  • Ability to lead others.
Good to have:
  • Understanding of company policies.
  • Basic knowledge of lumber math, grades, and species

Job Details

Job Summary The Shipping and Receiving Lead oversees the incoming and outgoing shipment of material. Prepares paperwork and material for shipment and reviews paperwork of incoming material. Monitors quality of the material before shipping to the customer. Leads the team on safety, quality, and KPI's. Relies on instructions and pre-established guidelines to perform the functions of the job. Works under immediate supervision. Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  • Determines proper loading order and placement of product.

  • Monthly performance reviews.

  • Verifies shipping documents and records any discrepancies.

  • Monitors productivity and quality.

  • Designated trainer for loading, unloading, and railcar process.

  • Organize shipping crew to complete daily tasks.

  • Takes and acts upon all calls for tracing and/or expediting orders.

  • Monitor department supplies.

  • Routine spot checks on processes preformed.

  • Loading/unloading material.

  • Prepares various reports and correspondence as required.

  • Startup meetings

  • Monitoring and enforcing safety guidelines.

  • Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications
  • Minimum high school diploma/GED

  • Minimum 1 year of experience in shipping and receiving or related area.

  • 1 year of experience in successfully leading others.

  • Working knowledge of standard DOT concepts, regulations, practices, and procedures.

  • Working knowledge of proper loading techniques, weight limitations, and company procedures

  • Ability to lead others.

  • Basic knowledge of lumber math, lumber grades, and species

  • Successful completion of forklift driver licensing process

  • Preferred understanding of company policies, practices, and procedures

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
