Expedia Group is seeking a Software Developer Engineer II to join their Private Label Solutions (PLS) team, the B2B arm of the company. This role involves shaping the future of travel by designing cutting-edge tech and groundbreaking solutions for partners like financial institutions and airlines. The engineer will collaborate with team members to co-develop and solve problems, proactively seeking knowledge and building technical expertise. Responsibilities include developing and testing standard software applications, applying software design principles and data structures, understanding system integration, and coordinating stakeholder input. The role requires applying formal training methods, reporting work status clearly, and challenging the status quo when empowered. This is a full-time, on-site position.
Must have:
  • 2+ years experience
  • Developed software in a team of at least 5 engineers
  • Built and maintained production software projects in public/hybrid cloud
  • Strength in one language, moderate familiarity in others
  • Familiarity with data stores or API access patterns
  • Tests and monitors own code
  • Understands testing and monitoring tools
  • Debugs applications
  • Understands how team goals fit business needs

Software Developer Engineer II

Introduction to team

Private Label Solutions (PLS) is the B2B arm of Expedia Group. We bring Expedia Group’s innovative technology and distribution solutions to partners across the world. These businesses include global financial institutions, corporate managed travel, offline travel agents, global travel suppliers (like major airlines) and many more. 

An established performer who consistently applies software engineering principles to business contexts, leads small, well-defined projects and continues as a supporting player on complex projects, and actively identifies inefficiencies in existing systems.

In this role, you will:

  • Collaborates with team members to co-develop and solve problems.

  • Proactively reaches out to meet peers across environment and collaborates to solve problems.

  • Takes advantage of opportunities to build new technical expertise in a specific engineering area.

  • Seeks knowledge from subject matter experts when needed.

  • Understands the importance of system and technology integration and the basic features and facilities involved in the integration process.

  • Develops and tests standard software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements.

  • Applies software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized, modular with good naming conventions.

  • Applies knowledge of database design to solve data requirements.

  • Helps coordinate stakeholder input and collaboration efforts when developing solutions to issues.

  • Thinks broadly and understand how, why and when policies/processes are standardized and when they differ across the organization.

  • Completes tasks and/or provides data to support implementation of holistic solutions that forge linkages between structure, people, process and technology.

  • Applies formal training methods to current workload. Feels comfortable challenging authority/the status quo.

  • Reports clearly on current work status.

  • Asks challenging questions when empowered to do so.

Experience and Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience for Bachelor's, 0-2 years for Master's or equivalent professional experience.

  • Developed software in a team environment of at least 5 engineers (agile, version control, etc.).

  • Built and maintained a software project/product in production environments in public/hybrid cloud infrastructure.

  • Has strength in a language, moderate familiarity in other applicable languages.

  • Is familiar with a couple data stores or API access patterns and integration.

  • Has familiarity with associated technologies within their specialization as part of the wider ecosystem.

  • Understands of how projects fit together within their team.

  • Understands moderately complex systems.

  • Tests and monitors their own code.

  • Understands testing and monitoring tools.

  • Debugs applications.

  • Understands how team goals fit a business need.
