Job Description

Smarsh is seeking a rigorous, problem-solving, and curious Software Engineer for its Fabric Engineering group. This role involves building and running products that provide secure tools and infrastructure for engineering teams. You will develop tooling, provide technical expertise for cloud-based services, and optimize them for compliance and cost-effectiveness. Responsibilities include implementing and maintaining scalable, resilient, and secure platform infrastructure, building an API-first platform, writing and reviewing code, developing documentation, debugging complex systems, differentiating platform vs. application issues, participating in on-call rotations, and optimizing existing infrastructure.
Must have:
  • Cloud-native technologies, distributed systems, network security, runtime environments.
  • Unix or Linux systems and TCP/IP network fundamentals.
  • Containerization and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Programming in Go, Python, Java, or similar.
  • Terraform for infrastructure management.
  • System monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (Prometheus, Grafana, ELK).
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
Good to have:
  • B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent).
  • Experience with AWS Cloud, K8s, Istio, Terraform, Argo CD, and Datadog.

Summary

We are seeking a rigorous, problem-solving, and curious Software Engineer (who codes!) to join our Fabric Engineering group. Fabric teams at Smarsh combine software and systems engineering to build and run products that equip our engineering teams with secure tools and infrastructure to do their best work. We are looking for someone who can build systems that engineers love to work with. In this role, you will play a key part in shaping the future of our platform by developing tooling and providing hands-on technical expertise to design, deploy, and optimise our services in a compliant and cost-effective way in the cloud. The ideal candidate will have a programming background in a cloud environment, a strong understanding of cloud automation and security best practices, as well as the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

How will you contribute?

    • Implement and maintain scalable, resilient, and secure platform infrastructure to support
    • high-demand, mission-critical applications.
    • Help build our API first platform
    • Write and review code, develop documentation, and debug the most challenging problems
    • on some of the largest and most complex systems.
    • Identify and differentiate between platform-related and application-specific issues,
    • including CPU utilisation, out-of-memory (OOM) errors, and latency problems.
    • Participate in an on-call rotation and be able to work with flexible hours based on the live
    • events schedule
    • Optimize existing infrastructure to improve efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and scalability.

What will you bring?

    • Strong understanding of cloud-native technologies, distributed systems, network security,
    • and runtime environments.
    • Solid knowledge of Unix or Linux systems and TCP/IP network fundamentals.
    • Experience with containerisation and orchestration technologies, with hands-on
    • experience in Docker and Kubernetes for deploying, scaling, and managing applications
    • efficiently.
    • Proficiency in a programming language such as Go, Python, Java, or similar.
    • Experience with Terraform for managing and provisioning infrastructure, with a strong
    • focus on integrating infrastructure management and change through DevOps processes to
    • enhance automation, continuous integration, and continuous deployment (CI/CD)
    • Familiarity with system monitoring, logging, and alerting tools (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana,
    • ELK Stack).
    • Strong communication skills, with a collaborative mindset and a commitment to driving
    • team success.

    • Preferred
    • B.S. in Computer Science, Electrical or Computer Engineering (or equivalent professional
    • experience)
    • Typically, 5+ years' experience
    • Experience with some of the following products/tools: AWS Cloud, K8s, Istio, Terraform,
    • Argo CD, and Datadog.
