Job Description
As a Software Engineer at WebFX's Nutshell team in Ann Arbor, you'll collaborate on various technology stacks, contributing to both frontend (React, React Native) and backend (PHP, Symfony, etc.) development. You'll work with databases (MySQL, Solr), cloud infrastructure (AWS), and utilize tools like Docker, GitHub, and Jenkins within a continuous integration environment. Responsibilities include building and deploying high-quality software, working independently and within a team, and contributing to multiple projects. The role requires a strong understanding of web application development, backend languages, SQL, HTTP APIs, and unit testing. The ideal candidate is passionate about software development, embraces challenges, and delivers high-quality work with strong communication skills.
Must have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field
- Part-time/volunteer/internship programming experience
- Backend or frontend development experience
- Strong SQL and relational database skills
- Understanding of HTTP API design
- Experience with unit testing and CI/CD
Good to have:
- Experience with modern software development frameworks (Symfony, Rails)
- Experience with JSON-RPC, REST, and GraphQL
- Experience with React, React Native, Redux, and Webpack

A Bachelor’s Degree
Successful Nutshellers in this role have majored in computer science and related fields
GPA above 3.4

A Few Related Skills and Experiences
Part-time/volunteer/internship programming experience is a must
Development experience in web application backend languages—PHP, Python, Ruby, or something else.
Or development experience in front-end web development —Javascript, React, etc
Working knowledge of modern software development frameworks, including server-side MVC (e.g. Symfony, Rails)
Strong background in SQL and relational databases
Background and opinions on HTTP API design—we’ve got a blend of JSON-RPC, REST, and GraphQL
Experience with unit testing and continuous integration

About the Job
As a software engineer, you’ll team up with others in various stacks at Nutshell. You can hone your skills alongside a frontend team that writes for both web and mobile in React + React Native, while building the GraphQL and cloud infrastructure that powers our app. You’ll work with the data we store in MySQL and Solr on AWS. And with our continuous integration and rapid development stack, you’ll deploy tested, peer-reviewed code to production on your first day.

-PHP, Symfony, Nginx, MySQL, Solr, Gearman, and more, all running on AWS, managed with Ansible
-React, React Native, Redux, and Webpack for web and mobile frontend tooling
-Docker for local development
-GitHub for code management and review
-Continuous integration via Jenkins
