Job Summary
The Intelligent Messaging (IM) team at Attentive is seeking a Software Engineer II to build the future of its omni-channel messaging platform. This role involves designing and developing backend systems for delivering communications at massive scale across SMS, email, and emerging channels. The engineer will collaborate with AI, personalization, and product delivery teams to unify the messaging stack, strengthen the platform's foundations, and ensure new capabilities benefit all supported channels. This is a hands-on, hybrid role based in New York.
Must Have
- Build and scale backend services and APIs for messaging products.
- Work closely with AI and personalization teams.

- Comfortable working with data stores, queues, and streaming systems (PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka).

About the Role
Our Intelligent Messaging (IM) team is the unified home for all of Attentive’s messaging products. We’re bringing together everything related to messaging — infrastructure, delivery systems, content intelligence, and personalization.

We’re looking for a Software Engineer II who’s excited to help build the future of our omni-channel messaging platform. You’ll design and develop the backend systems that enable our customers to deliver communications at massive scale.
This is a hands-on role where you’ll collaborate with engineers across AI, personalization, and product delivery teams to bring new messaging experiences to life. You’ll help unify our messaging stack, strengthen the foundations of our platform, and ensure that new capabilities benefit every channel we support.
This role follows a hybrid schedule, with engineers working from our New York office Tuesday–Thursday each week.
What You’ll Accomplish
- Build and scale backend services and APIs that power our messaging products across SMS, email, and emerging channels
- Work closely with AI and personalization teams to bring intelligent content and automation into the messaging experience
- Design for performance, reliability, and scalability — our systems handle billions of messages, so efficiency matters
- Contribute to architectural decisions and help shape how our unified messaging systems evolve
- Collaborate across product, data, and infrastructure teams to deliver a cohesive omni-channel platform
- Mentor peers, review code, and help drive engineering best practices across the team
Your Expertise
- 3+ years of backend development experience using languages like Java, Kotlin, Go, or Python
- Strong understanding of distributed systems and microservices architecture
- Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, GCP, or Azure) and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)
- Comfortable working with data stores, queues, and streaming systems like PostgreSQL, Redis, and Kafka
- You care about writing clean, maintainable, and well-tested code
- You’re collaborative, curious, and love solving complex system problems

For US based applicants:
- The US base salary range for this full-time position is $155,000-$200,000 annually + equity + benefits
- Our salary ranges are determined by role, level and location
