Summary 

CAE USA is seeking a software engineer who will build and deploy software products in support of a contract with the Department of Defense. We work on creating innovative cloud software to support the Department of Defense (DoD). Our software teams work in a scaled agile (SAFe) collaborative environment where each scrum team is composed of 5 to 10 developers.  

CAE USA is seeking a software engineer who will be working as part of development team to design, develop, and implement systems in support of the DoD’s Joint Staff Joint Training Synthetic Environment (JTSE). These systems identify, collect, analyze, store, and disseminate the data required to support the implementation of the Joint Training Tools (JTT) that the DoD uses to prepare and train the military branches’ forces. 

We use different technologies/programming languages due to our micro service architecture; because of this, we look for candidates that have a strong desire to keep learning and advancing their skills. In order to support this continuous learning, we provide a number of resources to foster this as well as providing the training time. 

This position will require the candidate to be eligible for a DoD security clearance and is located in Suffolk, Virginia.  
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Strong coder with demonstrated proficiency in programming languages, such as JavaScript/TypeScript, Java, C#, C++, Python, or similar languages 

  • Passion to develop cutting-edge software to solve complex problems for the Department of Defense 

  • Desire to develop innovative software for various R&D projects 

  • Critical and analytical thinking to break down issues and determine solutions while communicating ideas 

  • Capable of mentoring and aiding junior software developers 

  • Must be able to collaborate and perform effectively as part of a project team 

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, software, or computer science, or related field 

  • Bachelor’s degree with a minimum of 5 years of professional software engineering experience or Master’s degree with 3 years of experience 

  • Must be eligible for Secret DoD Personal Security Clearance 

  • Due to U.S. Government contract requirements, only U.S. citizens are eligible for this role 

 

Preferred Skills 

  • Experience with designing and developing modular software following microservice architecture patterns 

  • Experience creating web applications using JavaScript or TypeScript with frameworks such as React, Angular, Sencha EXTJS 

  • Experience building Java applications using frameworks and build tools such as Maven, Gradle, Spring Boot, and Dropwizard 

  • Familiarity working with geospatial data using GDAL, Geoserver, Geotools, OpenLayers, Leaflet, and Cesium 

  • Working with RESTful APIs to store data in database systems like PostgreSQL, GraphDB, OrientDB, etc. 

  • Familiarity developing within Linux environments using Bash 

  • Experience with container runtime environments such as Docker and container-orchestration systems such as Kubernetes 

  • Deploying software to cloud platforms using containerized software modules in DevSecOps pipelines 

 

Security Responsibilities 

Must comply with all company security and data protection / usage policies and procedures.  Personally responsible for proper marking and handling of all information and materials, in any form. Shall not divulge any information, or afford access, to other employees not having a need-to-know. Shall not divulge information outside company without management approval.  All government and proprietary information will be accessed and stored electronically on company provided resources 

  •  Incumbent must be eligible for DoD Personal Security Clearance

Work Environment  

  • The work environment is an office with a desk and computer equipment. 

  • This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. 

  • Must be able to travel periodically to customer locations  

  •  
    Moderate to high levels of stress, associated with technical, schedule, and customer issues are to be expected with this position.  

 

Physical Demands 

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.  

  • May be required to sit down for long lengths of time 

  • May be required to climb stairs 

  • May be required to lift items, such as light computer equipment
