Job Description

As a lead software engineer in test, you will be crucial in ensuring Luma Labs' products are high quality and reliable. You will lead test efforts, designing and executing testing strategies and frameworks from unit to end-to-end integration. Your expertise in automation, testing methodologies, and leadership will drive continuous product quality improvement, maintaining the highest standards of excellence.
Must have:
  • 5+ years of experience in software testing
  • 2+ years in a leadership/mentorship role
  • Extensive experience with test automation tools (Playwright, Selenium, Appium, Cypress)
  • Hands-on experience with GitHub Actions for CI/CD
  • Strong understanding of API testing (pytest, Postman, REST API automation)
  • Solid understanding of testing methodologies (unit, integration, functional, regression, performance)
  • Proficient in at least one programming language (Python, JavaScript)
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
Good to have:
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Deep knowledge of performance testing tools (LoadRunner, JMeter)
  • Familiarity with security testing and vulnerability management tools

Job Details

As the lead software engineer in test, you will play a critical role in ensuring the quality and reliability of Luma Labs' products. You will work with a team of engineers and lead the test efforts in the design, development, and execution of testing strategies and frameworks, from unit tests to end-to-end integration. Your expertise in automation, testing methodologies, and leadership will drive the continuous improvement of product quality and help ensure we maintain the highest standards of excellence in everything we build.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the test engineering team in developing and implementing automated testing strategies and frameworks.

  • Design, develop, and execute test plans for multiple projects, ensuring comprehensive coverage across functional, performance, and security testing.

  • Establish and enforce best practices for testing processes, reporting, and bug-tracking within the team.

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (product managers, developers, UX/UI designers) to define and refine test requirements and deliverables.

  • Ensure alignment with overall quality assurance goals and product timelines.

  • Drive continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) practices, ensuring automated testing is part of the pipeline.

  • Track and report test progress, bugs, and system quality metrics to stakeholders, offering insights and actionable recommendations for product improvement.

  • Stay current with industry trends, tools, and technologies, and continuously improve the team's testing capabilities.

  • Collaborate closely with the development team and research team to reproduce and troubleshoot issues, ensuring fast resolution and minimal disruption to the product roadmap.

Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in software testing, with prior experience as software engineer with at least 2 years in a leadership or mentorship role.

  • Extensive experience with test automation tools (e.g., Playwright, Selenium, Appium, Cypress, etc.).

  • Hands-on experience with GitHub Actions for test automation in CI/CD pipelines.

  • Strong understanding of API testing (e.g., pytest, Postman, REST API automation).

  • Solid understanding of testing methodologies (unit, integration, functional, regression, performance, etc.) and agile testing practices.

  • Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills.

  • Experience with cloud platforms and distributed systems (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).Proficient in at least one programming language (Python, JavaScript, etc.).

  • Deep knowledge of performance testing tools and frameworks (e.g., LoadRunner, JMeter).

  • Familiarity with security testing and vulnerability management tools.

  • Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to interact with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Experience in leading a diverse team, driving results, and motivating team members toward achieving goals.

Compensation

  • The pay range for this position in California is $180,000 - $240,000yr; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, candidate location, and experience. We also offer competitive equity packages in the form of stock options and a comprehensive benefits plan.
