This Senior Manager role in eBay Motors focuses on Strategy, Business Operations, and Inventory Intelligence. Must have:
  • Understand & analyze business performance drivers of the DE motors business.
  • Run select strategic projects for DE / Global Motors.
  • Work with a team of insights managers to own the development of inventory insights.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and driving the logic in tools and analysis.
  • Connect data assets to operational insights that can be launched and scaled.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners as a trusted partner and operational leader.
  • Drive the project management and readout of various inventory intelligence workstreams.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement within inventory, analytics, and product teams.
  • 6+ years of related experience, including business analytics, insight generation, consulting, and/or operations.
  • Fluent in both German and English.
  • Track record of providing structure to unstructured data to develop data-driven insights.
  • Strong SQL & Excel proficiency.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills to collaborate with internal partners and leadership.
  • Proven experience in consumer goods, retail, e-commerce, or consumer tech.
Good to have:
  • Tableau and Python experience
  • MBA or similar graduate degree

About the Team and the Role

eBay Motors is a dynamic, multi-billion dollar global portfolio encompassing Parts & Accessories (P&A), Business & Industrial, Vehicles, and WHI—a B2B Parts & Accessories marketplace in the US. These categories are not only pivotal to eBay’s strategic future but are also at the forefront of market innovation and transformation. We are looking to hire a Senior Manager of Strategy/ Business Operations & Inventory Intelligence. The role will have 2 key elements: 1) support business operations & strategy on key strategic Motors projects as well as business performance, monitoring and creating materials and category narratives for senior leadership operating cadences, including monthly and quarterly business reviews. and 2) work with a team of inventory insights managers and cross-functionally with Motors Analytics to improve our inventory and product offering perspective, via building reporting assets, deducing strategic insights, advising key actions for our commercial teams to operationalize closing inventory gaps, and working with product teams to develop new buy-side experiences.

This role requires a three-sided mentality: (i) a strategic leader with a profound understanding of two-sided marketplaces, capable of deconstructing complex problems into clear frameworks, operating in ambiguity, and possessing strong data intuition and executive-ready communication skills; (ii) an embedded operator, ready to act decisively and hands-on; and, (iii) an analytics leader with expertise in driving development of data, reporting, and insights assets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Understand & analyze business performance drivers of the DE motors business
  • Run select strategic projects for DE / Global Motors
  • Work with a team of insights managers to own the development of inventory insights to identify areas needing increased inventory coverage.
  • Demonstrate strong analytical skills and driving the logic in tools and analysis that take unstructured business problems and quantitative data to provide structured, practical and data-supported solutions.
  • Connect data assets to operational insights that can be launched and scaled within the commercial teams.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners as a trusted partner and operational leader, including Motors analytics, commercial teams, product, and business unit leadership.
  • Drive the project management and readout of various inventory intelligence workstreams, within partner teams and upwards to leadership.
  • Drive innovation and continuous improvement within inventory, analytics, and product teams to drive fast and accurate business decision making.

What You Will Bring

  • 6+ years of related experience, including business analytics, insight generation, consulting, and/or operations.
  • Fluent in both German and English required
  • Track record of providing structure to unstructured data to develop data-driven insights.
  • Strong SQL & Excel proficiency required; Tableau and Python experience preferred.
  • Excellent verbal & written communication skills to collaborate with internal partners and leadership.
  • Proven experience in consumer goods, retail, e-commerce, or consumer tech.
  • BS/BA required; MBA or similar graduate degree preferred

This is a global business, and the Strategy & Operations team is located across the globe, with presence in San Jose, New York, London, and soon India. Joining this team means being part of a world-class network of professionals dedicated to driving eBay Motors to new heights. The role will report into a Director, Strategy & Operations who will be based in the East Coast in the United States.
