Job Description

As a Staff Mechanical Engineer, you will apply in-depth knowledge and experience in electro-mechanical product development to design and develop products using polymers, metals, and rubbers that interface with PCBs and high-power electrical components. You will collaborate with a global development team, communicating ideas and feedback effectively. Responsibilities include designing and testing new components and products, managing mechanical design projects, performing CAD activities and documentation, conducting design reviews, analyzing solutions for performance/cost/schedule, product testing, failure analysis, component review, and ensuring quality by design. This role requires expertise in design, testing, and manufacturing processes within the renewable energy sector. You are expected to have in depth knowledge of industry standards.
Must have:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or higher.
  • 8+ years of industry work experience in product design.
  • Hands-on experience in designing electromechanical products.
  • Good exposure to UL/IEC and related standards.
Good to have:
  • Experience with UL1741, IL9540, UL 9540A standards.
  • Experience in testing to international standards.
  • Good exposure to DFX for high volume production.
  • Experience in SolidWorks and EPDM.

About the role: 
  
As a Staff Mechanical Engineer, you will be applying your in-depth knowledge and experience in electro-mechanical product development to the detail design and development of products that use polymers, metals and rubbers and which closely interface with PCBs and high-power electrical components.  
  
You will be working closely with team members across our global development team, so your spoken and written communication needs to be clear and effective in order to be able to present your ideas, your concepts and your feedback.  
  
You will be problem-solving on new product development, identifying and resolving root causes of field failures and implementing effective cost reduction opportunities. 
  
  
What you will do: 
  
  • Designing (70%) & testing (30%) of new components and products, sometimes as sole contributor but often as part of a team of contributors. 
  • Manage assigned mechanical design projects, adhering to project timelines, budget constraints, and quality standards. 
  • Perform day-to-day CAD (3D & 2D) activities and documentation. 
  • Conduct periodic design review with mechanical teams & cross functional teams. 
  • Reviewing and analyzing solutions to achieve the best outcome for performance/cost/schedule 
  • Product testing (DVT) & Testing proof-of-concepts and prototypes for performance 
  • Failure analysis and root cause identification 
  • Component review and approval, including global travel to be on-site at vendors during pre- production stage. 
  • Generating own (and reviewing others’) documentation, including concept proposals, analysis reports, component specifications, review minutes 
  • Ensure quality by design. 
  • Product testing (DVT) & Testing proof-of-concepts and prototypes for performance 
  • Design and execute comprehensive test plans (Inhouse and external lab) to verify mechanical performance against design specifications, including static and dynamic loading, fatigue testing, environmental testing, and reliability testing. 
  • Analyze test data, identify potential issues, and implement design improvements to address any deficiencies. 
  
  
  
  
Who you are and what you bring: 
  
  • Bachelor's Degree (or higher qualification) in Mechanical Engineering 
  • 12+ years (with BE / BS) or 8+ years (with Masters) of industry work experience in product design & development. 
  • Hands-on experience in Designing electromechanical products 
  • Good exposure on UL/IEC and related standards. Experience on UL1741, IL9540, UL 9540A will be an added advantage 
  • Experience in testing below international standards is desirable (but not limited to). 
  • Inverters UL 1741, Electrical connectors UL 6703, UL 9703, EN 60512, EN 60352; Polymers UL 94, UL 746C. 
  • Ingress protection IEC 60529/IPXX/NEMA Enclosure standards 
  • Hands on is preparing mechanical mock-ups, Prototypes, Electro-mechanical assemblies, Cable 
  • Good Exposure on plastics, Sheetmetal, casting part design and manufacturing process 
  • Good understanding on cable assemblies, ECAD/MCAD integrations 
  • Good exposure on structural and thermal design considerations 
  • Good Exposure on DFX for high volume production 
  • Good exposure on prototype techniques for Design development and verification 
  • Expertise in SolidWorks and EPDM. Knowledge on any other CAD packages will be an added advantage. 
  • Exposure on CAE tools is an added advantage. 
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) of parts made through injection moulding, sheet metal, stamping, milling/turning 
  • Experience using Computer-Aided development tools (SolidWorks) 
  • Clear communication - verbal and written 
  • Experience in the design and sustaining activities on high-volume products (+500k pa) would be a plus and alsoprevious employment in high-power and consumer products industries would be a plus.
