Skyhigh Security is seeking a Staff Database Administrator to enhance and maintain software development and database design. The role involves testing and delivering infrastructure and services, working closely with development teams, and following DevOps practices to automate infrastructure activities and document standards. Responsibilities include designing and managing PostgreSQL and Greenplum clusters for high availability and disaster recovery, optimizing cloud resource usage for cost-effectiveness, and monitoring database systems in cloud and on-prem environments to ensure data security and availability. The role also requires driving automation frameworks, creating new ones as needed, providing application health visibility through dashboards and metrics, and ensuring database architecture adheres to security policies and best practices. The position involves implementing database encryption, user management, access controls, improving site performance, and evaluating new technologies.
Must have:
  • Strong Linux systems administration and architecture knowledge.
  • Experience with CI/CD automation tools (Jenkins, Ansible, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD).
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases.
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL, PL/pgSQL, and advanced PostgreSQL features.
  • Familiarity with AWS services (Aurora, RDS, EC2, S3).
  • Expertise in tuning PostgreSQL for high performance.
  • Proficiency in analyzing and resolving database performance issues.
  • Extensive scripting experience (Python preferred).
  • Experience supporting large-scale distributed mission-critical systems.
Good to have:
  • Experience configuring, managing, and supporting virtualized environments.
  • Experience with cloud database management practices.
  • Ability to learn new tools and become a subject matter expert.
  • Ability to evaluate new technologies and provide proof-of-concept.

Role Overview:

We are hiring for a DevOps DBA Engineer who will improve and maintain software development and database design, test and deliver infrastructure and services.

About the Role:

  • You will work closely with the development teams, follow DevOps practices, automate infrastructure activities, documents standards and procedures. 

    • Design and manage PostgreSQL (self hosted and Aurora), and Greenplum, and similar DB clusters, ensuring high availability and disaster recovery resilience.

  • Optimize the usage of public cloud based resources to ensure cost-effective and efficient use.

  • Monitor and maintain database systems in cloud environments and on-prem, ensuring data security and availability. 

  • Drawing on your creative nature, you will drive the existing automation frameworks forward to benefit automation across multiple products, and may be asked to create new frameworks depending on need.

  • Provide visibility on application health by defining dashboards, metric/log aggregation mechanisms. 

  • Ensure that the database architecture complies with organizational security policies and best practices.

  • Implement database  encryption, user management, and access controls.

  • Ability to learn to use new tools, and quickly become a subject matter expert. 

  • Improving site performance, monitoring and overall stability of our infrastructure. 

  • Evaluate new technologies and provide proof-of-concept 

  • Additional duties as assigned 

About you:

  • Strong knowledge of Linux systems administration and architecture. 

  • Experience with configuring, managing and supporting virtualized environments. 

  • Experience with continuous integration and deployment automation tools such as Jenkins, Ansible, GitHub Actions, ArgoCD. 

  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases. 

  • In-depth knowledge of SQL, PL/pgSQL, and advanced PostgreSQL features like triggers, stored procedures, and replication.

  • Familiarity with AWS services (Aurora, RDS, EC2, S3, etc.) and cloud database management practices.

  • Expertise in tuning PostgreSQL databases for high performance, including memory usage optimization, connection pooling, and query optimization.

  • Proficiency in analyzing and resolving database performance issues, especially in high-traffic and high-volume production environments.

  • Analyse slow-running or poor performing queries and optimize performance through proper indexing, query restructuring, or caching mechanisms.

  • Extensive scripting experience, including extract, transform, and load programs (Python preferred).

  • Experience supporting, analyzing and troubleshooting large-scale distributed mission critical systems.
