Job Description

As a Staff Game Engineer, you will report to the Technical Director of the game and play a key role in one of our largest live games, played by millions of people. You will be involved in the design and implementation of technical aspects of the game, such as gameplay mechanics, metagame logic, and game world economy, both in the mobile app and on the server. You will guide other engineers, collaborate on technical decisions, and disseminate your technical knowledge. You will also set software architecture and help solve the most challenging technical issues.
Must have:
  • Solid professional experience in software development
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent
  • Experience handling large-scale systems
Good to have:
  • Experience in the gaming industry, preferably mobile gaming

We're looking for a talented and passionate Staff Game Engineer to join Wildlife's Live Games Tech Team in Brazil

As a Staff Game Engineer, you will report to the Technical Director of the game, and you'll play a key role in one of our largest live games, played by millions of people. As a staff engineer, you will participate in the full cycle of game development. You will make core decisions such as the overall software architecture and technology stack. However, you will not (only) act as a software architect. Additionally, you will be involved in the design and implementation of all other technical aspects of the game, such as gameplay mechanics, metagame logic and game world economy, both in the mobile app and in the server. You will guide other engineers of the technology team in solving their toughest technical challenges, collaborate with the project tech lead of the team to raise the technical bar of our projects, and disseminate your technical knowledge across the entire team. You won't have direct reports and will be an individual contributor, allowing you to have more time to go deeper into technical challenges.

What you'll do

  • You will set overall software architecture of new game projects and new features;
  • You will collaborate with key technical decisions and validate the engineering projects for the game;
  • You will design software, implement, and write tests for metagame business logic on game app and services, including the development of APIs;
  • You will estimate engineering-related tasks making assumptions about dependencies and risks, and plan roadmaps, releases and sprints the team members;
  • Provide timely transparency of development status and risks to interested parties
  • Proactively look for problems in processes and propose improvements
  • You will help to solve the most challenging technical issues in the game, partnering with team members to solve them;
  • You will coach more juniors engineers to achieve technical excellence in the project; 
  • You will identify inefficiencies in the current engineering way of working and propose systems, tools and/or processes that engineering managers need to put in place to solve them;
  • You will perform and collaborate to establish a strong engineering culture including processes like code review, pair programming, architecture reviews, automated tests coverage targets, etc..
  • You will ship new versions to production, supervise metrics and user feedback after the release;

What you'll need

  • Solid professional experience in software development professional;
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience;
  • Experience in handling large scale systems (several million users);
  • Plus: experience in the gaming industry, preferably in mobile gaming
