Job Description

Google is seeking a Staff Machine Learning Engineer specializing in Generative AI to contribute to a conversational AI tool. Responsibilities include understanding multimodal context and response planning for LLMs, contributing to the team's technical direction, and collaborating with researchers and cross-functional teams to overcome AI challenges. The ideal candidate will have 8+ years of software development experience, 5+ years in NLP, and 5+ years leading ML design and infrastructure optimization. A Master's or PhD in a related field and experience in technical leadership roles are preferred. This role is crucial in advancing Google's AI capabilities and improving user interaction with generative AI.

Must have:

8+ years software development experience
5+ years NLP experience
5+ years leading ML design & infrastructure optimization
Experience with LLMs
Multimodal context & response planning
Collaboration with cross-functional teams

Good to have:

Master's/PhD in Engineering or Computer Science
3+ years technical leadership
3+ years cross-functional project experience

Minimum qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience in software development, and with data structures/algorithms.
5 years of experience with Natural Language Processing (NLP) concepts and algorithms, and experience in designing NLP solutions.
5 years of experience leading ML design and optimizing ML infrastructure (e.g., model deployment, model evaluation, data processing, debugging, fine tuning).

Preferred qualifications:

Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
3 years of experience in a technical leadership role leading project teams and setting technical direction.
3 years of experience working in an organization involving cross-functional or cross-business projects.
