Job Description

We are looking for a Staff Platform Engineer with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure, Infrastructure as Code, and modern DevOps practices to join our engineering team supporting one of the leading financial institutions in Australia. You will lead by example, collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and drive best practices across CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and platform reliability.
Must have:
  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable, secure Azure infrastructure using Terraform or Bicep.
  • Champion and build robust CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar.
  • Collaborate with teams to standardize platform tooling, observability, and deployment strategies.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning, application deployment, and system configurations.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and hands-on expertise in infrastructure design, DevOps, SRE.
  • Drive cloud cost optimization, performance tuning, and governance in Azure.
  • Support security and compliance through automation and policy-as-code.
  • Advocate for modern software engineering practices and continuous improvement.
  • 5+ years in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering.
  • Proven hands-on expertise with Microsoft Azure cloud services at scale.
  • Strong Infrastructure-as-Code skills using Terraform or Bicep.
  • Deep knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices.
  • Proficiency in Python, .NET (C#), or TypeScript.
  • Understanding of containerization (Docker, AKS) and modern deployment strategies.
  • Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and observability tools.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience in a regulated enterprise environment, ideally financial services.
Good to have:
  • Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-400, AZ-305, or AZ-104).
  • Knowledge of GitOps practices and tooling (e.g., Flux, ArgoCD).
  • Prior experience in a consulting or client-facing engineering role.
  • Exposure to secure DevOps or DevSecOps principles.

About the Role

We are looking for a Staff Platform Engineer with deep expertise in Microsoft Azure, Infrastructure as Code, and modern DevOps practices to join our engineering team supporting one of the leading financial institutions in Australia. In this role, you'll work at the intersection of infrastructure, automation, and software engineering to help build scalable, secure, and highly available platforms.

You will lead by example, collaborate with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and drive best practices across CI/CD, cloud infrastructure, and platform reliability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain scalable and secure infrastructure on Microsoft Azure using Terraform or Bicep.
  • Champion and build robust CI/CD pipelines using tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or similar.
  • Collaborate with software and infrastructure teams to standardize platform tooling, observability, and deployment strategies.
  • Automate infrastructure provisioning, application deployment, and system configurations to improve reliability and efficiency.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and hands-on expertise in areas like infrastructure design, DevOps, and SRE practices.
  • Drive cloud cost optimization, performance tuning, and governance in a large-scale Azure environment.
  • Support security and compliance efforts through automation and policy-as-code.
  • Advocate for modern software engineering practices and continuous improvement across teams.

Required Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps, or Site Reliability Engineering roles.
  • Proven hands-on expertise with Microsoft Azure cloud services at scale.
  • Strong Infrastructure-as-Code skills using Terraform or Bicep (preferably both).
  • Deep knowledge of CI/CD tools and practices; experience with pipelines, release management, and automation.
  • Proficiency in at least one programming or scripting language: Python, .NET (C#), or TypeScript.
  • Understanding of containerization (Docker, AKS) and modern deployment strategies (blue/green, canary, etc.).
  • Familiarity with monitoring, logging, and observability tools.
  • Excellent collaboration, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience working in a regulated enterprise environment, ideally in financial services.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Azure certifications (e.g., AZ-400, AZ-305, or AZ-104) are a strong plus.
  • Knowledge of GitOps practices and tooling (e.g., Flux, ArgoCD).
  • Prior experience working in a consulting or client-facing engineering role.
  • Exposure to secure DevOps or DevSecOps principles.
