Job Description

Rivian is seeking a Staff Thermal Engineer to design, simulate, and validate the thermal performance of microelectronic devices and systems. This role involves modeling thermal systems, performing transient and steady-state simulations, and measuring thermal performance across various power user cases. The engineer will also define and characterize thermally enhanced materials for hardware components. The ideal candidate will contribute to Rivian's mission of creating emissions-free Electric Adventure Vehicles, working in a dynamic environment that challenges conventional approaches and seeks innovative solutions.
Must have:
  • Architect, design, simulate and validate thermal performance of microelectronic devices and systems.
  • Model thermal system for thermal response simulations.
  • Perform transient and steady state thermal response simulation.
  • Measure thermal performance with varying power user cases.
  • Define and characterize thermally enhanced materials and processing for hardware components and systems.
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field.
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in thermal analysis and thermal measurement.
  • Fundamental understandings on thermal conduction, convection and radiation.
  • Experience in Python, MATLAB or C++ coding.
  • Experience with Ansys Icepak, Flotherm or equivalent.
Good to have:
  • Masters or PhD degree preferred.
  • Working knowledge on Cadence Allegro, Redhawks SCET, CAD tools, Ansys mechanical simulation tools.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field; Masters or PhD degree preferred.
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in thermal analysis and thermal measurement.
  • Fundamental understandings on thermal conduction, convention and radiation.
  • Experience in Python, MATLAB or C++ coding.
  • Experience with Ansys Icepak, Flotherm or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge on Cadence Allegro, Redhawks SCET, CAD tools, Ansys mechanical simulation tools is a plus.
  • Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
