Substack is building a new economic engine for culture, empowering independent creators to publish and earn through subscriptions, offering creative freedom and direct audience connection. As a Technical Program Manager on the enterprise team, you will work with ambitious founders to build media empires on Substack. This role involves direct responsibility for product initiatives, collaborating with engineers, and serving as a technical liaison for enterprise publishers, managing migrations, implementations, and developing new product capabilities.
Must have:
  • Serve as a technical liaison for top creators using the Substack platform and delivering projects related to their success.
  • Own and manage technical roadmaps associated with specific initiatives by gathering, synthesizing, and validating customer feedback.
  • Collaborate directly with engineering teams to manage deadlines, provide feedback and guidance, and ultimately deliver features.
  • Manage projects across multiple teams in services of our largest customers providing status updates, unblocking, and ensuring delivery.
  • Provide 1:1 technical guidance and support to our largest customers to make them successful.
  • Exceptional communication skills, crisp, brief, and razor sharp attention to detail.
  • Ability to bring clarity to conversations with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Experience with coding or using AI to create helpful tools.
  • Deep understanding of data, including ability to dive into data sets and use SQL.
  • Proven ability to deliver projects on time, communicate delays, and provide options.

As a Technical Program Manager on Substack’s enterprise team, you will work with the world’s most ambitious founders to build the media empires of tomorrow on Substack. You will have direct responsibility for product initiatives and work hand-in-hand with product engineers to build foundational capabilities in partnership with our customers. You will be the technical liaison for enterprise publishers, ensuring strong relationships, and clear communication. You will execute on large-scale customer migrations and implementations, product initiatives and pilots, as well as develop new product capabilities.

Requirements

  • You are an exceptional communicator; you are crisp, brief, and have a razor sharp attention to detail. You can bring clarity to conversations with technical and non-technical audiences alike, and you love directly working directly with creators.
  • You code; maybe for years or maybe only recently you’ve used AI to create some things that have helped you in your day to day work, and you’re excited to talk about them during our interview.
  • You understand data deeply; you love diving deep into data sets to understand what’s actually happening and you aren’t afraid of SQL. You don’t tolerate unsolved mysteries.
  • You deliver projects; you make sure things happen when they are supposed to, and when they can’t you communicate this early and provide options.
  • You love media; you are a media nerd and can’t wait to work with creators to build the media empires of tomorrow.

Substack’s compensation package includes a market competitive salary, equity for all full time roles, and exceptional benefits. Our cash compensation salary range for this role is $120,000 - $160,000. Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors including candidate experience and expertise and may vary from the amounts listed above.
