Hatchery Games is seeking an experienced UI Director for 'Voidling Bound,' a 3rd-person sci-fi shooter developed on Unreal 5, where players control, upgrade, and craft unique creatures. Hatchery Games is a nine-person independent game development team in Quebec City, fostering a healthy and respectful work environment. Each team member has significant responsibility and autonomy. The UI Director is primarily responsible for creating game graphical interfaces, prioritizing user experience and information clarity through graphic design skills, and solving visual problems by testing hypotheses.
Must have:
  • Work closely with the management team to establish UI pillars and rules that will enhance the project's creative direction.
  • Plan, organize, and structure user interface development efforts.
  • Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to design intuitive game interfaces.
  • Create conceptual mock-ups to illustrate the visual appearance of the game's user interfaces.
  • Cut and integrate own mock-ups into the game.
  • Work closely with programmers to make interfaces functional.
Good to have:
  • Experience with Unreal Engine 5's UMG tools
  • 8 to 15 years of industry experience as a UI artist
  • Bilingual (French and English)

Description

We are looking for an experienced UI Director for Voidling Bound, a 3rd-person shooter set in a science-fiction universe developed on Unreal 5. During their experience, the player is called upon to control, improve, evolve, and craft creatures, each more unique than the last.

Hatchery Games is a nine-person independent game development team located in the heart of the Saint-Roch district in Quebec City. Each team member collaborates closely to create the best possible gaming experience in a healthy and respectful work environment. At the heart of our small team, each individual is responsible for crucial elements essential to the project's proper functioning. To do this, each employee benefits from great freedom to achieve set objectives and is expected to do so autonomously.

At Hatchery Games, the UI Director is primarily responsible for creating game graphical interfaces. They place great importance on user experience and ensure the clarity of displayed information through their graphic design skills. They solve visual problems and suggest hypotheses, then test them themselves.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with the management team to establish the pillars and rules that will govern the user interface and enhance the project's creative direction.
  • Plan, organize, and structure user interface development efforts.

  • Create conceptual mock-ups to illustrate the visual appearance of the game's user interfaces.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent team and collaboration spirit, promoting team success beyond personal interests.
  • Strong creative spirit working iteratively to arrive at the best solution.
  • Excellent artistic skills: from conceptual mock-up creation to animation and interface finalization.
  • Excellent visual communication and graphic design skills.
  • Proficiency in Photoshop, Illustrator, and Figma.
  • Ability to work closely with programmers and game designers.
  • A strong interest in the design and creation of UI elements rooted in a science-fiction universe.
  • Independent and motivated.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience with Unreal Engine 5's UMG tools.
  • 8 to 15 years of industry experience as a UI artist.
  • Bilingual (French and English).
