Toast is seeking a strategic and product-minded Workday Solutions Architect to join their People Products team. This role will drive the vision, design, and delivery of Workday solutions to enhance employee experience and operational excellence. Responsibilities include system configuration, process optimization, integration design, release management, and assessing platform health. The architect will also provide architectural leadership on build vs. buy decisions and mentor HRIS analysts. Key interactions involve People, Finance, and IT stakeholders to align Workday configurations with business goals, ensuring scalability and adoption. The role also encompasses ensuring SOX compliance and championing governance practices within the Workday ecosystem.
Must have:
  • 6+ years of hands-on Workday experience in 2+ functional areas (HCM preferred)
  • Expertise in Workday business processes, security, calculated fields, and condition rules
  • Ability to translate complex business needs into scalable Workday solutions
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with leaders
  • Broad understanding of all Workday modules (HCM, Benefits, Absence, Time Tracking, Payroll, Integrations, Reporting)
  • Experience with integrated systems within and outside HR
  • Experience in a highly matrixed, global organization
  • Experience in a SOX compliant environment
  • End-to-end process understanding and ability to develop/maintain processes
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Project management experience
  • Collaborative problem-solving approach

We are seeking a strategic and product-minded Workday Solutions Architect to join our People Products team. In this role, you will report to the Sr. Manager of People Products, and drive the vision, design, and delivery of Workday solutions that power our employee experience and operational excellence. You'll work closely with People, Finance, and IT stakeholders to align Workday configurations and integrations with business goals, ensuring solutions are scalable and successfully adopted. 

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

System Configuration & Process Optimization

  • Define, configure and govern scalable configuration standards and architectural frameworks that drive automation, efficiency, and long-term sustainability
  • Ensure system integrity through expert-level configuration of security, business processes, calculated fields, condition rules, and validations
  • Design and optimize data flows and process integrations between Workday and internal systems, ensuring data accuracy and process efficiency
  • Oversee planning and execution of major Workday releases, including feature adoption strategy, regression testing, and stakeholder impact analysis
  • Lead ongoing assessment of Workday platform health and user experience metrics to inform continuous improvement and maximize business value
  • Own end-to-end lifecycle management of Workday documentation, version control, and change processes across all modules and integrations

Innovation / Art of Possibility

  • Evaluate and shape new project and product requests for strategic fit, technical feasibility, and alignment with enterprise system architecture
  • Provide architectural leadership on build vs. buy decisions, managing technical debt, scalability, and performance trade-offs
  • Act as a thought partner to senior leadership and a mentor to HRIS and business analysts, fostering a culture of continuous learning and architectural excellence

Stakeholder Engagement

  • Serve as a strategic advisor to People, IT, and Finance leaders, translating complex business needs into scalable, maintainable Workday solutions
  • Partner with stakeholders to define problem statements, assess business impact, and ensure alignment between technology investments and business priorities

Compliance

  • Ensure Workday architecture, configurations, and change management processes meet SOX compliance and audit standards, partnering closely with internal audit, InfoSec, and compliance teams
  • Champion governance practices across the Workday ecosystem, balancing flexibility with control to enable secure and compliant innovation

 

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements) 

  • 6+ years of hands-on Workday experience in 2+ functional areas, including but not limited to HCM – prior implementations a plus
  • Expertise in Workday business processes, security, calculated fields, and condition rules
  • Workday Certifications (Preferred)
  • Proven ability to analyze complex business needs and translate them into scalable Workday solutions
  • Exceptional communication and collaboration skills, with experience working alongside People, IT, and Finance leaders
  • The ideal candidate will have a broad and deep understanding of all areas of Workday: HCM, Benefits, Absence, Time Tracking, Payroll, Integrations, and Reporting & Analytics
  • Understands how company systems are integrated within and outside of the HR organization
  • Has worked in a highly matrixed, global organization 
  • Experienced working in a SOX based environment and have been responsible for programs and processes that are SOX compliant
  • End-to-end process understanding with an ability to develop and maintain processes, and HR service center procedures
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills and sound influential skills
  • Project management experience with a demonstrated ability to effectively manage several objectives simultaneously while prioritizing and executing technology roadmap plans
  • Collaborative problem-solving approach; leverages relationships and strong business acumen to understand not only the “what” the “why” behind requests; displays empathy for partner teams
  • Ability to multitask under pressure and thrive in a fast-paced environment; flexible and able to respond to rapidly changing business needs
