Applied Materials’ Research and Development department (Varian R&D) is searching for an intern to join our team starting in 2025! Our R&D department is working on state-of-the-art tools which are the backbone of the semiconductor industry. Through novel engineering we are advancing processes such as deposition, etch, pattern shaping, and material modification.

Co-op/intern start date: Nov/Dec 2025 for 6-9 months, on-site at our Gloucester, MA location

Requirements

  • Preference for students in their final year in a Doctoral degree in Materials Science & Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Physics, Electrical Engineering or a related field
  • Student must be in good academic standing at their university, with a preferred GPA of 3.0 or above on a 4.0 scale
  • Experience/knowledge in semiconductor processing or manufacturing a big plus
  • Quick learner. Hands-on and not afraid of building and dissembling things. Good communication skills. Well organized with attention to details.
  • Available to work for 6 - 9 months

Compensation

$47 - 50 per hour

The salary offered to a selected candidate will be based on multiple factors including location, hire grade, job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and with consideration of internal equity of our current team members. In addition to a comprehensive benefits package, candidates may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and a stock award program, as applicable.

For all sales roles, the posted salary range is the Target Total Cash (TTC) range for the role, which is the sum of base salary and target bonus amount at 100% goal achievement.
