Haleon is a world-leading consumer healthcare company. This Co-Op position in North America R&D Packaging focuses on innovation and sustainability projects. The role involves researching new materials, evaluating product-packaging interactions, testing components, gaining consumer insights, and interacting with suppliers. Candidates will build technical expertise in packaging materials and development processes, with hands-on experience in prototyping and pilot-scale equipment. This full-time, 6-month onsite role starts in January 2026 at the Richmond, Virginia R&D site.
Must have:
  • Research and evaluate new materials, technologies, and packaging formats.
  • Understand product-packaging interaction and assess barrier requirements.
  • Evaluate and test performance of primary and secondary packaging components.
  • Gain consumer insights and translate learnings to opportunities.
  • Interact with packaging suppliers and manufacturing sites.

  • Organization and time management skills.
  • Coursework in packaging science, engineering, or related major.
  • Currently enrolled in an Undergraduate degree program (Junior or Senior status).
  • Ability to start in January 2026.
  • Able to work full-time (40 hours/week) for 6 months.
  • Provide own funding for relocation and commuting.
  • Willingness to travel to suppliers or sites.
  • Eligible to work in the US.
Good to have:
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 is preferred.

Our portfolio consists of global and local leading brands in Oral Health, Wellness and over-the-counter drug products such as Sensodyne, Advil, Centrum, Tums, Theraflu and Flonase.

Qualified candidates will be assigned to work on innovation and sustainability projects at our R&D site in Richmond, Virginia under the guidance of a R&D Packaging Manager. This experience will build their technical expertise in the field of packaging materials, formats, and applications across consumer healthcare product categories. This role will provide on-the-job training on packaging development process with hands on experience to work on prototyping and pilot-scale equipment in R&D environment.

  • Research and evaluate new materials, technologies and packaging formats based on Desirability, Viability, Feasibility and Sustainability framework.
  • Understand product-packaging interaction and assess barrier requirements for product stability.
  • Evaluate and test performance of primary and secondary packaging components.
  • Gain consumer insights and translate learnings to opportunities to elevate user experience.
  • Interact with packaging suppliers and manufacturing sites to prototype and test ideas

To enable you to perform in this future talent opportunity:

Education required:

  • Coursework in packaging science, packaging engineering, or other related major.
  • Currently enrolled in an Undergraduate degree program with a Junior or Senior status
  • A cumulative GPA of 3.0 is preferred.

Other requirements:

  • Ability to start in January 2026
  • Candidate must be able to work full-time (40 hours/ week) Monday-Friday 8am-5pm for 6 months.
  • Provide your own funding for relocation and commuting.
  • This role is onsite at our Richmond, VA location.
  • Willingness to travel to suppliers or sites as required.
  • Must be eligible to work in the US at the time of, and for the duration of employment. Employees will be required to furnish evidence of US work authorization.

Expected start date: January 2026

The hourly rate for this role is $24.50/ hour.
