Job Description

The 3D Animator will contribute to creating a vibrant open-world universe, focusing on central NPC life, within a human-sized team. Under the artistic director and department leads, the 3D Animator is responsible for animating characters, creatures, and objects. The artist interprets storyboards, animatics, and gameplay documentation to create high-quality keyframe animations, adhering to technical rules and the project's artistic vision. This role involves collaborating with various teams to ensure animations align with the game's style and cinematic requirements.
Must have:
  • Interpret storyboards and animatics to create high-quality 3D animations in Maya.
  • Create exceptional 3D animations of characters, creatures, and objects, demonstrating a keen sense of performance, posing, weight, and lip-sync.
  • Collaborate with other artists and the director to create compelling visual stories that effectively convey emotion and meet scene needs.
  • Work closely with the creative director and animation director to ensure animations match the game's artistic style and vision.
  • Ensure production schedule and quotas communicated by the producer are met.
  • Provide and receive constructive feedback.
  • Maintain a positive team dynamic and provide support and mentorship to junior animators.
  • Collaborate with technical artists and animation leads to test, configure, and integrate cinematic and gameplay animations in Unreal Engine 5.
  • Significant experience in keyframe animation.
  • Proficiency in Maya.
  • Strong understanding of performance, form, gesture, and character silhouette.
  • Exceptional skills in animating bipedal human figures, other organic forms, and mechanical objects.
  • Solid understanding of composition, character and camera animations for cinematic or scripted scenes, and knowledge of cinematic visual language.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively within a team.
  • Proactive, creative, and detail-oriented.
Good to have:
  • In-depth knowledge of Unreal Engine 4 and/or 5 is a plus
  • Experience in layout/camera animation is a plus

Under the direction of the artistic director and department Leads, the 3D animator is responsible for the animation of characters, creatures, and objects. The artist interprets the storyboard / animatic / gameplay documentation to create key-frame animation while respecting the technical rules and the artistic vision established for the project.

Your key responsibilities:

  • Interpret the storyboard and animatic to create high-quality 3D animations in Maya
  • Create exceptional 3D animations of characters, creatures, and objects, demonstrating a keen sense of performance, posing, weight, and lip-sync
  • Collaborate with other artists and the director to create compelling visual stories that effectively convey emotion and meet the needs of the scene
  • Work closely with the creative director and animation director to ensure animations match the artistic style and vision of the game
