Job Description

Starbreeze seeks a Mid-Experienced Animation Programmer for their Project Baxter (a cooperative action D&D game in Unreal Engine 5). Responsibilities include collaborating with Animation, Design, and Gameplay Programming teams to develop, iterate, and implement animation systems and tools. This involves creating ragdolls, inverse kinematics, procedural animations, and locomotion systems, optimizing existing tools, and managing interactions between animation, AI, and physics systems. The role requires strong understanding of animation pipelines, modern techniques, and Unreal Engine experience. The position is based in Stockholm with a hybrid work model (set office days).

We are looking to hire a Mid-Experienced level Animation Programmer to join our Project Baxter team. You will be responsible for collaborating with our Animation, Design and Gameplay Programming teams to develop, iterate and implement animation systems and tools for the project.

Please note that this role must be based in Stockholm with Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday as set office days.

Project Baxter is a cooperative action game set in the world of Dungeons & Dragons®. Inspired by our love of tabletop RPGs and built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, we will embrace cutting edge technology to create entertaining and emergent gameplay scenarios. Project Baxter is set to launch on all major platforms in 2026.


Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with our Animation team, and aid them by adding new functionality and optimisation of the tools that they need;

  • Develop, iterate and implement core animation systems and related tools including ragdolls, inverse kinematics, procedural animations, locomotion systems, and more;

  • Develop and maintain the connections between the animation, AI and physics systems;

  • Implement dynamic character behaviors by managing interactions between animation and physics systems.


Requirements:

  • Experience working as an Animation Programmer or similar role in the development of AA+ console/PC games;

  • Strong understanding of the animation pipeline for AA+ game titles, for both motion capture and keyframe animation;

  • Strong understanding of modern animation techniques, such as motion fields and inverse kinematic;

  • Experience working with Unreal Engine 4 and/or 5 and Blueprints.


Nice to have:

  • Experience working on third person action titles.


Interview process:

  1. 30-minute introductory video call with a member of our Talent Acquisition team

  2. 60-minute video call with our Senior Animation Programmer and a member of our Engine team

  3. 60-minute video call or onsite interview with the project’s Lead Gameplay Programmer and Lead Animator

  4. 15-minute introductory video call with our Head of Technology
