Job Description

Bento Box seeks an experienced Consulting Director for a 2D animated primetime series. Responsibilities include liaising between Executive Producers and the animation team, ensuring creative vision execution. This involves relaying notes, reviewing storyboards/animatics, giving feedback to directors and supervisors, and participating in various production phases (animation, color edits, sound design). The ideal candidate possesses strong story understanding, comedic skills, and supervisory experience in episodic television, preferably primetime comedy. Proficiency in 2D animation pipeline, Storyboard Pro, Photoshop, and ideally Toon Boom Harmony is required. The role demands excellent communication, adaptability, and the ability to manage multiple deadlines effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Bento Box is looking for an experienced Director to work closely with the creators and execute their vision for a 2D animated primetime series! This position includes meeting with our EPs to hear their notes, doing drawovers for the production team and relaying notes to the team in launches, review meetings and edits.

The ideal candidate will have experience supervising, have strong story understanding and comedic skills, and the ability to mind meld with the creators to effectively carry out their vision. They will be able to juggle notes and deadlines without breaking a sweat. They will have an excellent report with the team and be able to communicate in a positive and productive way. They will thrive in a fast paced production and happily pivot in the face of an unexpected curveball. All of this while bringing fun filled energy to a team of amazing and talented humans.

Responsibilities:

    • Serve as the main point of contact between the Executive Producers and the animation production team, seeing through the creative vision for each script. Work closely with the Supervising Director, Art Director and Supervisors to relay notes and direction that reflect the vision of the creators as well as the notes from the network. 
    • Give feedback to Episodic Director and Design Supervisors at all hand out meetings and reviews
    • Meet with EPs to review storyboards and give notes at milestone phases throughout the schedule
    • Note rough and final designs submitted to ensure they fit the creators' vision, as well as fitting within the legal and standards parameters
    • Participate in all animatic edit sessions to support the Executive Producers, hearing their notes and seeing the storyboard/animatic through to the completion of their vision
    • Review take 1 animation footage, call retakes, do draw-overs and provide reference as needed for retake process
    • Attend all color edit sessions, guide edited cut through to locked picture keeping the creators' notes as well as the network's notes in mind
    • If requested, participate in dialogue recording/editing, music & sound design spotting sessions, and/or attended mixes

Qualifications:

    • 3+ years of experience directing in episodic series television, preferably in primetime comedy
    • Knowledge of 2D animation and a thorough understanding of a 2D production pipeline from development to post production
    • Knowledge of Storyboard Pro and Photoshop a must
    • Toon Boom Harmony knowledge is a plus
    • Comfortable working digitally on a Cintiq
    • Excellent organizational and project management skills
    • Must be able to adapt to changes easily within a highly dynamic environment
    • Strong attention to detail is critical
    • Previous supervisory and leadership experience, including demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team
    • Comfortable working remotely and keeping in close communication with the team
    • Must be an 839 union member or willing to join
