Perplexity is seeking a Developer Experience Engineer (DevEx) to join their team to revolutionize how people search and interact with the internet. The role involves building and optimizing the work environment for fellow developers. Responsibilities include designing, building, and maintaining developer environments; optimizing CI/CD; optimizing developer workflows; building and maintaining testing environments; owning the developer onboarding flow; and analyzing and resolving complex developer environment issues. The candidate will play a crucial role in supporting the company's rapid expansion and growth.
Must have:
- Experience with macOS and Linux development environments
- Proficiency with Bash, Python, and Typescript
- Experience with containers and optimizing builds
- Familiarity with build tools like webpack and babel
- Familiarity with package installation tools like pnpm
- Experience with testing tools such as pytest
- Experience with linting tools such as ESLint
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills

Perplexity is seeking a Developer Experience Engineer (DevEx) to join our small team in revolutionizing the way people search and interact with the internet. You will be responsible for building and optimizing the work environment for fellow developers.
The ideal candidate should have experience with build systems, containerization solutions, continuous integration, testing, code editors, and infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain local and remote developer environments
- Maintain and optimize the CI/CD environment
- Optimize developer workflows to enable them to ship safely and quickly
- Build and maintain testing environments
- Own the developer onboarding flow
- Analyze, debug, and resolve complex developer environment issue
Qualifications
- Strong experience with macOS and Linux development environments
- Proficiency with Bash, Python, and Typescript
- Experience working with containers and optimizing builds
- Familiarity with build tools such as webpack, babel, and bazel
- Familiarity with package installation tools such as pnpm and poetry
- Experience with testing tools such as pytest, Playwright, and jest
- Experience with linting tools such as ESLint, prettier, ruff, mypy
- Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- 4+ years of industry experience
Our cash compensation range for this role is $160,000 - $220,000.

We also offer Perplexity Enterprise Pro, which counts leading companies like Nvidia, the Cleveland Cavaliers, Bridgewater, and Zoom as customers.

Final offer amounts are determined by multiple factors, including, experience and expertise, and may vary from the amounts listed above.
Equity: In addition to the base salary, equity may be part of the total compensation package.
