Job Description

As an EHS Leader at Wabtec, you will ensure safe and compliant operations across four manufacturing plants in Ohio and Pennsylvania. This role involves providing expert EHS guidance, aligning with corporate policies, and regular travel. You will manage environmental permitting, OSHA compliance, incident investigations, and implement EHS policies. Responsibilities include developing training, conducting audits, overseeing workers' compensation, and maintaining security programs. The position requires a continuous improvement mindset for EHS performance and risk reduction, with significant on-site presence and travel.

  • Regular travel to the 4 facilities.
  • Daily interaction with management and hourly production personnel.
  • Provide EHS technical support for site operations management on various EHS initiatives and projects.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental permitting and reporting requirements for each facility.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA record keeping requirements for each facility.
  • Initiate and influence integration of EHS policies and practices.
  • Facilitate the implementation of the Wabtec Management System and other procedures.
  • Facilitate and develop training for factory personnel on Wabtec and Regulatory required training material.
  • Develop an internal audit or inspection program related to EHS.
  • Review all work-related injury investigation reports and ensure hazard conditions are addressed and corrected.
  • Assist operations and engineering on matters related to ergonomics and continuous improvements.
  • Oversee the administration of workers compensation program at each site.
  • Develops, reviews, and maintains responsibility for security programs at each location.
  • Maintain a continuous improvement mindset to identify opportunities to improve overall EHS performance.
  • Perform periodic evaluations to ensure compliance with environmental permits, plans, policies and/or other regulatory requirements.
  • Shop Floor Presence Required.
  • Travel up to 50% of time.
  • Expected to be on-site 5 days per week.

Who will you be working with?

As an Environmental, Health and Safety Leader you will work in a diverse and fast paced manufacturing environment, partnering with business leaders to ensure safe and compliant operations of 4 manufacturing plants located in the Ohio and PA region.

How will you make a difference?

As a member within the Components division, you will be responsible for the safe operation of manufacturing operations across 4 standalone facilities. You will provide expert EHS guidance and leadership to all levels of your facilities and ensure alignment with corporate cultural and policy expectations.

This will include regular travel to the 4 facilities and daily interaction with both management and hourly production personnel in manufacturing and office environments.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Bachelor's degree in environment health and safety or related discipline from an accredited university or college, or relevant EHS experience as EHS site leader and plant safety roles in lieu of Bachelor’s degree.
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in a plant safety role.
  • Knowledge and understanding of with governmental compliance including OSHA regulations, environment compliance, industry standards and right to know compliance.
  • Experience with incident investigations, case management, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
  • Demonstrated application of leading indicator implementation, cultural improvements, employee engagement activities, and sustainability projects.
  • Prior experience with capital improvement requests, project management, and supplier development.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication/language skills required to include the ability to provide written and verbal instructions, compile, and present business reports/correspondence, and present information clearly.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and other critical business software

What will your typical day look like?

  • Provide EHS technical support for site operations management on various EHS initiatives and projects at each facility.
  • Ensure compliance with all environmental permitting and reporting requirements for each facility.
  • Ensure compliance with all OSHA record keeping requirements for each facility.
  • Initiate and influence integration of EHS policies and practices.
  • Facilitate the implementation of the Wabtec Management System and other procedures to ensure regulatory and business level compliance while driving ownership with the site operations team(s).
  • Facilitate and develop training for factory personnel on Wabtec and Regulatory required training material.
  • Develop an internal audit or inspection program related to EHS to ensure compliance with local regulatory requirements as well as Wabtec internal requirements.
  • Reviews all work-related injury investigation reports and ensures that identified, addressed, and corrected any hazard conditions. Verifies corrective measures have been taken to avoid any repeated accidents.
  • Assists operations and engineering on matters related to ergonomics and continuous improvements when new workplace projects are being developed to ensure any safety and health issues are adequately addressed prior to the startup of the process.
  • Oversees the administration of workers compensation program at each site, including working with the insurance carrier to reduce employee lost time and cost control of workers compensation costs.
  • Develops, reviews, and maintains responsibility for security programs at each location. Ensures security vendor efficiency. Reviews security vendor costs.
  • Maintain a continuous improvement mindset to identify opportunities to improve overall EHS performance at each facility as well continuously identifying risk reduction opportunities.
  • Perform periodic evaluations to ensure compliance with environmental permits, plans, policies and/or other regulatory requirements.

  • Shop Floor Presence Required
  • Facilities can produce warm/hot conditions
  • PPE Required: Safety glasses, steel toed shoes, hearing protection and hard hats. Gloves are required by job/task.
  • Travel up to 50% of time

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary. This role is expected to be on-site 5 days per week.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between $67,400.00-$96,000.00. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include an annual bonus, if eligible.
