The Embedded Software Engineer - Platforms at Zoox collaborates with various teams to build complex systems for challenging automotive environments. This role involves defining tester platform architecture for component/system-level testers (HIL and SIL), working across the entire software stack, and taking ownership of major components. The ideal candidate will drive the design and development of complex embedded systems and ensure test platform stability.
Must have:
  • Develop and implement automated tests for complex embedded systems on component-level and system-level test assets
  • Port existing firmware components into a simulated environment
  • Manage test suites across multiple CI frameworks
  • Own test case and test platform stability
  • 4+ years of experience, Bachelor’s or Master's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent.
  • Strong expertise in modern C++ development, and working knowledge of Python.
  • Experience working on real-time embedded systems with strict performance requirements.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams.
  • Experience owning/maintaining high-level complex systems and system test platforms.
Good to have:
  • Experience designing or testing closed-loop controllers
  • Experience with ROS or other distributed, modular, peer-to-peer middleware frameworks based on communication via pub/sub messaging

Job Details

The Embedded Software Engineer - Platforms at Zoox is responsible for collaborating with other firmware, hardware, software, systems, and safety teams across Zoox to build complex systems designed for challenging automotive environments.

Together with the team, you will define the tester platform architecture of our component/system-level testers in both HIL and SIL, while working with our cross-functional partners. We are seeking an Embedded Software Engineer who is excited to work across our entire stack, loves learning new things, and enjoys taking ownership of major components. If you enjoy driving the design and development of complex embedded systems, along with owning a test platform for stability, we would like to hear from you.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement automated tests for complex embedded systems on component-level and system-level test assets

Qualifications

  • 4+ YOE, Bachelor’s or Master's degree in computer science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Strong expertise in modern C++ development, and working knowledge of Python
  • Experience working on real-time embedded systems with strict performance requirements
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams
  • Experience owning/maintaining high-level complex systems and system test platforms

Bonus Qualifications

  • Experience designing or testing closed-loop controllers
  • Experience with ROS or other distributed, modular, peer-to-peer middleware frameworks based on communication via pub/sub messaging

Compensation

There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $165,000 to $210,000. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
