Job Details

NXP is one of the leading companies in the semiconductor industry, dedicated to delivering embedded solutions in large and growing markets such as automotive, secure circuits and wireless communications.

The « Advanced Analog » department develops high performance analog solutions for automotive and industrial electronic applications. On Toulouse site, the engineering teams are creating innovating applications with high level of integration of analog mixed-signal and power electronic.

The ESD/EMC (ElectroStatic Discharge / ElectroMagnetic Compatibility) team designs, tests and integrates solutions to guarantee robustness and operation of these products subject to ElectroStatic and ElectroMagnetic aggressions. To do so, the team develops simulations methods to predict the electromagnetic behavior of integrated circuits present in stressful environment. Dedicated EMC measurements laboratory is used by the team to evaluate the performances of automotive embedded systems : sensors, driving assistance with RADAR, battery management for electrical vehicle, supply circuits, UWB and NFC communication.

In this context, the intern will join the ESD/EMC team to participate in the evaluation of Radar Front End architecture immunity. These investigations will enhance EMC performances of NXP ADAS circuits and anticipate future EMC challenges (such as interference generated by other radars, 5G, radio transceiver, lightning transient stress).

Your Responsibilities

During this internship, you will participate in the investigation of EMC immunity up to 18 GHz of different ADAS products and compare EMC performances. To evaluate this behavior, different EM test setups including a Near Field Scan table operating from 1 MHz up to 6 GHz will be used. Simulations will also be performed to understand and reproduce behavior observed in the laboratory.

Perform testing, understand the coupling mechanism leading to failures and propose solutions to enhance the immunity level of devices are the main achievements to be reached during this internship.

You will:

  • Learn how to use the Near Field scan : theory of coupling depending on probes, impact of different parameters, sources setting
  • Understand on how Radar Front End circuitry operates in such automotive products. Identify key parameters of ADAS device to be considered and monitored during immunity testing
  • Perform bibliography of potential future EMC perturbations : inside / outside the car
  • Identify coupling mechanism by performing correlation between measurement and simulation.
  • Performing electric simulation at bloc level to reproduce behaviors and improve EMC performances of the device.

Your Profile

Education level : Bac +5, last year of engineering school or master degree in analog electronics/microelectronics/EMC

Experience / Knowledge: RF / microelectronic measurements / electronics / simulations / Notions of EMC

A good level of English is required, working in an international multi-site team.
