Job Description

As an Engineering Manager for the Business Experiences team at Reddit, you will lead a team of engineers, working cross-functionally with product and design teams. Your responsibilities include building and operating a high-performing, inclusive team, contributing to product and business strategy, and driving a culture of technical excellence. You'll participate in the full development cycle, review code, provide feedback, and ensure the successful launch of novel products and features. This role involves planning, development, and implementation across Reddit's backend service architecture and client platforms, fostering a metrics-led execution culture with transparency.
Must have:
  • 3+ years building and managing engineering teams
  • 6+ years of software engineering experience
  • Experience with product metrics and tools like GA
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python or Go
  • Strong organizational skills and prioritization abilities
  • BS in Computer Science or equivalent

The Business Experiences team(Reddit Pro, Profiles and Publishers) is a broader pillar of the core experience at Reddit. This team’s mission is to empower users, experts, professionals, businesses and organizations to create engaging content for our communities while growing their presence on Reddit. Reddit Pro is an ongoing initiative that offers advanced tooling for businesses that unlocks the power of Reddit’s 100k active communities & conversations – where opinions are formed and decisions are made. Longer term, businesses will also be able to build on this deep relationship with their Reddit communities by leveraging complementary monetized solutions from Reddit. While Reddit’s consumer profile is a central part of a Redditor’s world and acts as a key entry point to their interests and contributions on Reddit. The Profiles team is focused on making profiles an open, safe and expressive part of Reddit for all users, further encouraging growth in user contributions. 

This is a high impact role where you will be involved in technical & product strategy and have a chance to get in on the ground floor of a new product space. 

This role can be remote within the United States or Canada, or can be a hybrid model if near an office. Offices are located in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, New York City, and Toronto. 

What You’ll Do:

  • Build and operate a high-caliber, inclusive team of engineers.
  • Work cross-functionally, collaborate and partner with product, design, and other engineering counterparts to execute on product and business strategy and build novel products and features that our users will love.
  • Lead a team of thoughtful, fast-moving, and motivated engineers. Contribute to standards that improve developer workflows, recommend best practices, and help mentor engineers on the team to grow their technical expertise.
  • Participate in the full development cycle: design, development, test, experimentation, analysis, and launch. You’ll be reviewing code and design docs, giving feedback on product specs and mocks, and generally helping out wherever is needed.
  • Drive a culture of technical excellence ensuring the right bets are taken with the highest quality. 
  • You will be a key driver in the planning, development, and implementation across Reddit’s backend service architecture and our various client platforms, including native applications (iOS and Android) and Web.
  • Set and enable a culture of metrics led execution, with efficient processes and strong levels of transparency.

Role Requirements:

  • 3+ years building and managing high performing engineering teams.
  • 6+ years of experience as a software engineer developing user-facing applications.
  • Fluency working with product metrics and exposure to tools like GA, BigQuery etc.
  • Software development experience in one or more general purpose programming languages; e.g. Python, Go, Swift, Kotlin, Rust, Java, C++
  • Strong organizational skills, the ability to prioritize tasks and keep projects on schedule.
  • BS degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong focus on user experience and usability. You are an undying advocate for the user, and you have a deep intuition for how people think and how they interact with software. Experience with social or e-commerce is a huge plus.
  • Entrepreneurial spirit. You must be self-directed, innovative, and biased towards action. You live to build new things and thrive in ambiguity.
  • Excellent communication skills. You must be able to collaborate with teams in a fully remote environment, and discuss complex topics with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead with empathy and foster a supportive team environment
