Job Description

This role is part of the APAC Zone Environmental, Health and Safety team, reporting to the APAC EHS Leader and based in South Korea. The manager will improve Philips' H&S performance and reduce operational risks by driving the Philips Environmental, Health and Safety Management System in South Korea. This position will oversee EHS across Philips Korea, ensuring compliance with domestic laws and global standards, managing safety in commercial activities, equipment installation, and service projects, and fostering a site-centric safety culture. Key responsibilities include monitoring compliance, maintaining licenses, deploying corporate safety standards, providing technical support, facilitating safety programs, conducting training and audits, and managing ISO45001 certification and radiation safety.
Must have:
  • Ensure commercial activities comply with H&S laws and regulations in South Korea.
  • Maintain and update EHS licenses and permits.
  • Deploy and comply with Philips Corporate Safety Standards and APAC EHS Procedures.
  • Provide technical support for commercial projects and manage contractor safety.
  • Facilitate employee health and safety programs in offices.
  • Conduct regular EHS training and audits.
  • Maintain ISO45001 Multi-site certification for South Korea.
  • Manage compliance to local radiation safety regulations as a Qualified Radiation Safety Officer.
  • Comply with Ministry of Environment regulations and acts.
  • Establish EHS Annual Management Plan and monitor performance.
  • Conduct monthly legal compliance assessment and manage regulatory reports.
  • Investigate accidents and submit ‘Safety Alert’ for EHS incidents.
  • Organize regular Office and Service Delivery Fire and Safety inspections.
  • Coordinate and execute EHS audit procedures (Internal, Corporate, External).
  • Manage corrective actions closure and report compliance status.
  • Lead or facilitate multidisciplinary workgroups on EHS issues.
  • Organize and document regular H&S Committee meetings.
  • Share EHS best practices and requirements in South Korea.
  • Ensure timely submission of reports and payments to the Ministry of Environment.
  • Facilitate Ministry of Environment audits for compliance.
  • Assist in preparing Safety Management Plans and sharing Philips EHS Procedures with Contractors.
Good to have:
  • 1+ year of experience in management regarding Korea Ministry of Environment compliance.
  • Experience in chemical management tools or ERP systems (e.g., Chemwatch, SAP EHS).
  • 5+ years of experience in EHS management in an international business environment.
  • Experience with the implementation of the ISO45001 management system.

Role Summary

In this role, you will be part of the APAC Zone Environmental, Health and Safety team, reporting to the APAC EHS Leader and based in South Korea where you can take full use of your expertise and experience in Environmental, Health and Safety. You will be pivotal in improving the Philips H&S performance and reducing operational risks by driving the Philips Environmental, Health and Safety Management System in the South Korea.

This position will oversee all aspects of EHS at Philips Korea, leading compliance with domestic laws and global standards. It will manage safety in Philips' commercial activities and equipment installation and service projects, handle contractor safety management and internal safety program operations, and foster a field-oriented safety culture. Additionally, it will fulfill legal requirements such as maintaining ISO45001 certification, responding to Ministry of Environment regulations, and managing radiation safety, playing a key role in disseminating a safety culture throughout the organization through internal and external audits and training.

Key Areas of Responsibilities

  • Monitor and ensure our commercial activities comply with the H&S laws and regulations in the South Korea.
  • Maintain and update applicable Environmental, Occupational Health and Safety licenses and permits.
  • Deploy and comply with Philips Corporate Safety Standards and APAC EHS Procedures.
  • Providing technical support to commercial projects (Installation and Service Delivery) and managing contractor safety (Site Preparation, Equipment Transporter and Warehousing).
  • Facilitating Philips employees in the offices on the deployment of health and safety programs, such as safety Gemba, risk assessment, Accident/Incident reporting, LOTO, etc.
  • Conduct regular training and audits
  • Maintaining the ISO45001 Multi-site certification for South Korea.
  • Qualified to be the Radiation Safety Officer and manage compliance to the local regulations.
  • Comply regulations and acts under Ministry of Environment with understanding and applying latest regulatory requirements.

Activities

  • Establish EHS Annual Management Plan, monitor targets and performance on a monthly basis.
  • Conduct Monthly legal compliance assessment. Manage regulatory reports, registrations and permits required for our activities.
  • Conduct accident investigation and submit ‘Safety Alert’ for all EHS incidents.
  • Organise Office and Service Delivery Fire and Safety inspection regularly.
  • Facilitate EHS briefings to affected parties.
  • Coordinate and execute the EHS audit procedures for Internal, Corporate and External audits.
  • Manage closure of corrective actions and report compliance status to the EHS Committee and APAC EHS Leader.
  • Lead, participate in or facilitate multidisciplinary workgroups on issues such as emergency response, travel safety, Office relocation safety evaluation etc.
  • Organise and document regular H&S Committee meetings and minutes respectively.
  • Share best practices, information, advice and EHS requirements in the South Korea and ensure deployment, support and training when needed
  • Submission of the report and payment related to the Ministry of Environment are completed within the deadline.
  • Compliance on the requirements and facilitate audit by the Ministry of Environment for compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Assist CPM and CSD to prepare the Safety Management Plan in accordance to the Customer’s requirements and share relevant Philips EHS Procedures with the Contractors.

To succeed in this role, you should have the following skills and experience

  • Bachelor degree or above
  • Certified Radiation Safety Officer (방사선안전관리자) under South Korean regulatory standards.
  • Certified Industrial Safety Manager (산업안전관리자) in South Korea, qualified to carry out Occupational Health Manager responsibilities.
  • 1+ year of experience in management regarding Korea Ministry of Environment compliance is preferred.
  • Experience in chemical management tools or ERP systems (e.g., Chemwatch, SAP EHS) preferred.
  • Fluent in English
  • 5+ years of experience in EHS management in an international business environment preferred.
  • Experience with the implementation of the ISO45001 management system preferred.
  • Familiar with South Korea laws and regulations.
  • Good people management and communication skills through organizational layers.
  • Team player, goal-oriented and pragmatic (gets things done)
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, well organized.
