About the Position

We are looking for a professionally trained Engineer to join a highly technical group responsible for maintaining the facilities of our London office. Although you will be working in an IT-centric environment, we are less focused on the specific discipline you’ve worked in, and more interested in a proven commitment to excellence, sound design experience and well-reasoned engineering decisions.

From an engineering perspective, our goal is to successfully manage, design and deliver highly reliable trading floors, colocation facilities and data centres for our business. As we expand our office, you’ll work with colleagues and external vendors to execute our vision, while factoring in connectivity with our satellite offices and colocation facilities around the world.

This position sits within our Engineering group, a team of creative problem-solvers who design to optimise the work experience at Jane Street. Our team culture is highly collaborative, with specific responsibilities spanning all aspects of our physical infrastructure.

About You

  • 5+ years of experience with the operation and maintenance needs of mission-critical data centres, trading floors or similar 24/7 facilities, including managing vendors
  • Knowledgeable about MEP disciplines, including: plant infrastructure, CRACs, UPS's, HVAC, generators, fire prevention, domestic services and building management systems
  • Experienced with practical problem-solving across multiple engineering disciplines
  • Comfortable working with a wide range of colleagues across several business areas
  • Have a working knowledge of data centre computer hardware and trading desktop hardware
  • Handy enough to solve small problems in the field without a tradesperson
  • Willing to travel and be part of an on-call rotation to respond to critical system emergencies
  • Strong communicator with an ability to describe detailed problems with brevity and accuracy
  • Any additional experience in electrical or mechanical engineering, or design work for trading rooms or dealing desks, is a plus
  • Fluency in English is required
