Rippling is seeking a Global Payroll Lead with expertise in German Payroll to join their Support team. The role involves becoming a product expert for German customers, creating documentation and FAQs, analyzing support interactions, and acting as a resource for customer support specialists. The lead will also interface with the country Product Manager to share trends and compliance issues and handle escalated customer interactions. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of German payroll regulations, tax and social security contributions, payroll processing, and labor laws.
Must have:

  • Deep knowledge of German payroll regulations
  • Strong understanding of payroll processing and compliance
  • Experience with payroll compliance audits
  • Ability to interpret German labor laws
  • Strong client-facing skills
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Fluency in German and English

  • Experience with payroll providers or HR software companies
  • Experience with DATEV, SAP, ADP, or similar systems

About the role


We are building a world-class Support team - committed to helping customers realize the full potential of Rippling. Team members focus on getting our customers back on course when challenges arise and contribute to internal discussions around product enhancements.

This role will act as our Payroll Support Lead, SME for Germany.


What you will do

  • Become a product expert over our Global Payroll (and other HR) capabilities for German customers
  • Create content and documentation to cover the existing product behaviour, update for changes and build FAQs to support internal enablement
  • Analyse support interactions to build a POV on the quality of the support interactions
  • Interface with the country Product Manager to share support volume trends, drivers of bad customer interactions, and compliance issues
  • Act as a resource to Customer Support Specialists on regionally nuanced interactions for your country of expertise
  • Step into escalated customer interactions to resolve issues by leveraging platform and industry expertise


What you will need

  • 5+ years of hands-on German payroll experience, preferably in a payroll provider, HR software company, or in-house payroll function eg. e.g., DATEV, SAP, ADP, or similar
  • Deep knowledge of German payroll regulations, including tax and social security contributions (Lohnsteuer, Sozialversicherung, etc.).
  • Strong understanding of payroll processing, wage types, statutory deductions, and compliance reporting.
  • Experience with payroll compliance audits and handling payroll-related inquiries from tax authorities.
  • Ability to interpret and apply German labor laws as they relate to payroll (e.g., Mindestlohn, Kurzarbeit, Entgeltfortzahlungsgesetz).
  • Strong client-facing skills with experience managing enterprise client relationships.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot payroll discrepancies.
  • Fluency in German and English (written and spoken).
