We are looking for a talented & skilled Government Affairs Director to be part of our Global Government Affairs team & help grow our global footprint and lead government affairs activity in the Asia Pacific region. In this role, you will be at the forefront of public and regulatory policy advocacy supporting the business, taking a leadership role on compliance and ethics in the region as it relates to government affairs’ issues.
Job Description
Overview:
Government Affairs (GA) is responsible for advocating Motorola Solutions’ public policy positions with policymakers in the US & abroad. GA leads the company’s engagement with government representatives globally, working to develop and preserve regulatory and political environments that are favorable to the company’s profitable growth. In addition, the organization houses the company’s country management.
Your role:
As Government Affairs Director for Asia-Pacific & International Trade, you will be responsible for:
- Serving as lead GA contact for the business and recognized expert on government affairs issues in the Asia Pacific region, working closely with regional/country sales and product teams to support business development & drive advocacy.
- Supporting the company’s work on international trade issues for GA, including monitoring and reporting on international sanctions and tariffs, and their impact on the company including supply chain.
- Representing the company with governments and US Embassies in Asia-Pacific, and with industry associations, establishing & maintaining positive working relationships, in order to position the company as a trusted partner and advance business objectives.
- Driving and executing GA actions aligned with business strategy for the Asia-Pacific region, including developing effective strategy and communication tools to support the business, identifying possible funding for business development, and advocating for favorable public policies to promote growth and minimize adverse actions.
- Tracking, understanding and reporting on macro political, economic & commercial trends in the Asia-Pacific region; and analyzing, informing and advocating on public policy issues of concern, in consultation with internal stakeholders.
- Supporting country managers in the Asia-Pacific region, working closely with them and functional leads to help resolve operational issues when needed.
- Promoting compliance and ethics in the Asia-Pacific region, including through country managers.
Your experience and skills:
To be successful as Government Affairs Director for Asia-Pacific, you should have:
Public affairs & Asia-Pacific experience
- Experience in government relations in the Asia- Pacific region, with a strong understanding of government structures & political processes, and ability to interact effectively with senior government officials.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in helping advance public policy issues and business development initiatives, and developing strategic plans to support such efforts.
Strategic thinking & communication skills
- Strategic thinker with strong analytical skills, able to understand company strategy, determine how best to support it, align work with wider business strategies and goals, and resolve complex issues effectively.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills; demonstrated ability to synthesize and summarize complex issues for senior management, and to communicate effectively to persuade.
Leadership, teamwork & integrity
- A self-starter with initiative and strong leadership and interpersonal skills, able to build and foster effective relationships, and collaborate at all levels across the company in order to promote company interests.
- Uncompromising ethics, integrity and sound judgement.
Highly Desired Skills:
- Bachelor’s Degree. Preferred emphasis in International Relations, Political Science, Law, or a related subject.
- 8-10+ years of public affairs experience with a US or other government agency and/or international company in the Asia- Pacific region, preferably with good knowledge of the technology/communications sector.
- Familiarity with international trade policy issues, particularly in Washington DC.
- Strong strategic thinking & analysis, judgement, and written & oral communication skills, including the ability to summarize complex issues clearly & succinctly for senior executives.
- Ability to understand & determine how to support company strategy, including demonstrated experience in advancing public policy issues & business development initiatives.
- Strong leadership, initiative & interpersonal skills, including proven ability to work effectively with senior US & other government officials, & senior company executives.
- English fluency required; skills in other regional languages an asset.
Basic Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations, Political Science, Law, or a related subject.
- 8-10+ years of public affairs experience with a US or other government agency and/or international company in the Asia- Pacific region.
