Job Description

As a Heavy Plant Operator/Constructor Repairer, you will undertake the full range of end-to-end installation with the construction of Optical Fibre cable to meet customer expectations with limited supervision. You will achieve faultless construction, provisioning, and maintenance of the customer access network and associated infrastructure. This role involves planning and undertaking activities for infrastructure maintenance and upgrades, working within a team to deliver a premium level of service while ensuring network integrity.
Must have:
  • Undertake full range of end-to-end installation with the construction of Optical Fibre cable.
  • Achieve faultless end-to-end construction of Optical Fibre cable, provisioning and maintenance of the customer access network.
  • Plan and undertake planned activities associated with infrastructure maintenance and upgrades.
  • Work within a team environment contributing to the delivery of a premium level of service.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with peers and key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Take reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others (HSE Responsibility).
  • Work in accordance with a continuous work roster of 18 nights away, 10 nights home.
  • Maintain network integrity.
  • Heavy Plant knowledge and operating experience with Dozers, Excavators, Backhoe’s.
  • Experience in Ripping.
  • Understanding/willingness to learn Plough Dozer.
  • Experience in Re-instating/clearing.
  • Perform manual labour duties associated with Plough construction (Pit and Pipe Install, Rod and Roping, Marker Post Installation, Re-Establishing property owner infrastructure fences, irrigation, Cleaning and Greasing heavy machinery).
  • Possess a Truck Licence, HR-C (combination) and maintain logbook for all truck driving duties.

This is an 18-month secondment opportunity

(18 nights working away with 10 nights home)

About the Role

  • Achieve faultless end to end construction of Optical Fibre cable, provisioning and maintenance of the customer access network and associated infrastructure through compliance to prescribed standards, practices and procedures, and to the full satisfaction of customers expectation.
  • Plan and undertake planned activities associated to infrastructure maintenance and upgrades, through compliance to prescribed standards, practices and procedures within given time lines
  • You will work within a team environment contributing to the delivery of a premium level of service to our customers by ensuring all work is undertaken in a timely and cost effective manner, meeting set quality standards and customer commitments.
  • You will establish and maintain effective working relationships with your peers and key internal and external stakeholders relevant to the achievement of business performance objectives
  • HSE Responsibility: Take reasonable care for your own safety and the safety of others, comply with and implement any reasonable Telstra HSE instruction, policy, standard, minimum requirement or procedure, and support Telstra to meet its duties under the relevant safety and environmental legislation.
  • Work in accordance with a continuous work roster of 18 nights away, 10 nights home.
  • You will always maintain network integrity. ‘Always on”

About You

  • Heavy Plant knowledge and operating experience with Dozers, Excavators, Backhoe’s.
  • Ripping
  • Understanding/willing to learn Plough Dozer
  • Re-instating/clearing.
  • Manual labour duties associated with Plough construction- Pit and Pipe Install, Rod and Roping, Marker Post Installation, Re-Establishing property owner infrastructure fences, irrigation, Cleaning and Greasing heavy machinery for daily operations.
  • Truck Licence, HR-C (combination) essential. Maintain logbook for all truck driving duties required.

Highly Desirable

  • Backhoe RII ticket - highly desirable
  • Excavator RII ticket - highly desirable but not essential.
  • Dozer RII Ticket
