Job Description

The DPG DevOps Engineer will play a major role in providing the principles, frameworks, tools, and expert technical support to enable automation of deployment and testing, expanding DevOps principles. Working closely with developers, product managers, and environment support teams, this role aims to enable faster, more efficient software delivery cycles, reducing the cost of change. Applicants must be strong technical leaders and pioneers of best practices in automation, with deep experience in DevOps/CI tooling and processes.

  • Apply business requirements and knowledge of full software design lifecycle.
  • Work with senior colleagues to design development algorithms and flowcharts.
  • Produce clean, efficient code based on specifications and review code.
  • Integrate software components and third-party programs.
  • Verify and deploy programs and systems.
  • Support colleagues in troubleshooting, debugging and upgrading software.
  • Identify and execute improvements to code.
  • Create technical documentation for reference and reporting.
  • Work with Architect(s) to create software designs for Developers.
  • This is an Individual Contributor role.
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Electronics / Electrical Engineering, or equivalent.
  • Significant knowledge of at least one programming language.
  • Previous experience in a software development role.
Good to have:
  • Experience in Java and Typescript is valuable.
  • Experience in Cloud technologies is preferred, mainly around Kubernetes / containers / AWS.
  • Experience of the financial services industry is an advantage, with direct knowledge of clearing a big advantage.

Job Details

The DPG DevOps Engineer will play a major role in providing the principles, frameworks, tools and expert technical support to enable automation of deployment and testing as we expand DevOps principles across the estate. Working closely with developers with varied backgrounds, product managers, and environment support teams, the DPG Cloud DevOps Engineer will enable faster, more efficient software delivery cycles, with the overarching goal of reducing the cost of change. Applicants must be strong technical leaders and pioneers of best practices in automation. Technical excellence and a deep experience in best practice DevOps / Continuous Integration tooling and process is paramount.

The candidate should be an excellent communicator both verbally and in writing, i.e. knowledge sharing though direct interaction and wikis should be second nature. The candidate should be able to delegate to peers and juniors effectively in order to deliver.

Candidate should have the following skills profile:

  • A strong desire to drive automation.
  • Expert with git (Bitbucket), Unix servers including bash scripting, database queries.
  • Expert in the application of DevOps culture, tools, processes and best practices.
  • Expert level Jenkins CI server (as architect and administrator).
  • Experience in Java and Typescript is valuable.
  • Experience in Cloud technologies is preferred, mainly around Kubernetes / containers / AWS.
  • Capable in agile software development practices.
  • Experience of the financial services industry is an advantage, with direct knowledge of clearing a big advantage.

Role Purpose

Applies business requirements and knowledge of a full software design lifecycle to develop products that satisfy customer needs.

Role Responsibilities

  • Works with senior colleagues to design development algorithms and flowcharts
  • Produces clean, efficient code based on specifications and reviews code submitted by Developers
  • Integrates software components and third-party programs
  • Verifies and deploys programs and systems
  • Supports colleagues in troubleshooting, debugging and upgrading existing software
  • Identifies and executes improvements to code
  • Creates technical documentation for reference and reporting
  • Works with Architect(s) to create software designs to provide Developers.

Minimum Requirements

  • This is an Individual Contributor role
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or Electronics / Electrical Engineering, or equivalent
  • Significant knowledge of at least one programming language
  • Previous experience in a software development role.
