Job Description

In this role, you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve challenges, develop and execute objectives for yourself and others, and directly impact short-term and long-term business goals while coordinating these objectives with all Simteam facilities. You will assist in designing and supporting Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and Reduced HIL (Slim) systems, participate in simulator design/development/integration, facilitate new capabilities for model development, enhance user-experience environments, and design DAQ and analysis runtime capabilities.

  • Maintain configuration control system for global simulation environments.
  • Troubleshoot real-time HIL, emulated, and virtual capability.
  • Provide customer support.
  • Lead in following a strong software development process.
  • Work with Simteam members for proper on-target performance of Simulink plant models.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data.
  • Demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals.
  • Work with subsystem design teams to identify new modeling requirements.
  • Execute design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects.
  • Provide technical leadership to personnel.
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues.
Good to have:
  • Troubleshooting of PCI based Linux industrial grade computer systems
  • Experience with Matlab/Simulink
  • Experience with Gitlab version control process
  • Experience with National Instruments software and hardware
  • Experience with other model-based-design tools, such as MatrixX

Who will you be working with?

How will you make a difference?

  • To assist in designing and supporting the Hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) and Reduced HIL (Slim) systems Erie Simulation and Controls team Architects & Integrators (Simteam).
  • Participating in simulator design/development/integration within the Simteam to meet current and future integration testing capabilities and to address integration testing realtime concept challenges.
  • Facilitating new capabilities to enhance the model development model catalog and build environments coordinating with the Simteam.
  • Provide simulation user-experience environment enhancements where needed coordinating with the Simteam.
  • Design and supporting DAQ and analysis runtime and post-run data reduction capability coordinating with the Simteam.
  • Facilitate communication and coordination with Simteam Architects.

What do we want to know about you?

  • Supporting testing environments to maintain consistent capabilities used in all global simulation environments.
  • Maintain the configuration control system for the global simulation environments.
  • Be capable of troubleshooting real-time HIL, emulated, and virtual capability and providing customer support.
  • Lead in following a strong software development process and provide working knowledge of global Simteam software development tools including revision control and defect tracking.
  • Work with local and global Simteam members to ensure proper on-target performance of Simulink plant models for various requisitions, NPI, and subsystems.
  • Assure proper documentation of technical data generated for the assigned projects and/or tasks consistent with global Simteam policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment.
  • Work with subsystem design teams to identify new requirements for modeling locomotive systems combining real-time systems and behavioral and physics based dynamic plant models.
  • Execute the design, analysis, or evaluation of assigned projects using sound engineering principles and adhering to global Simteam standards, practices, procedures, and product / program requirements.
  • Provide technical leadership to personnel supporting assigned projects.
  • Provide timely communications on significant issues or developments with local and global Simteams.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Bachelor of Computer Engineering/Computer Science/Electrical Engineering.
  • Large experience with Linux embedded systems.
  • Understanding of Real-Time Concepts.
  • Experience working with hardware in the loop simulators and modeling software environments.
  • Experience with Linux supported compilers, make, shell programming, libraries, binary applications, and other interpreted languages.
  • Working knowledge of both software and electrical interface/integration hardware design techniques, including the ability to read/understand schematics.
  • Understanding of application and integration of real-time Communication Protocols, such as Ethernet/Serial/CAN/ARCNet.
  • Strong communication, influencing skills and proven history of participating in successful teams.

Desired:
